Edit existing survey data

The owner of a survey can edit any responses sent for their survey on the survey's Data page on the Survey123 website or in the web app using URL parameters.

Submitters with the necessary permissions can edit their own survey responses in the web app using URL parameters. If a submitter has viewer privileges, they can also edit their responses through the survey's Data page on the Survey123 website.

It is expected that the URL used to edit a response is constructed in another app. A common place would be for it to come from a pop-up in a web map. For example, a web map may be configured to display the results of a survey for a reviewer to perform a quality assessment before results are shared with stakeholders. A link can be built into the pop-up of the survey data to take the reviewer to the survey for editing. To learn more, see Integrate with other apps.

Edit in data table

Minor edits can be made to survey responses in the data table on the survey's Data page.

Caution:
  • Changes made in the data table are saved immediately and cannot be undone.
  • Constraints and calculations will be disregarded.
Note:
  • Only the survey owner can edit responses in the data table.
  • You cannot edit attachments through the data table.

Edit an individual response

An individual survey response can be edited and resubmitted on the survey's Data page.

Note:

Editing an individual response is not supported for surveys that contain a nested repeat.

To edit an individual response, a user must have both submitter and viewer privileges and be able to add and update records. For more information, see Share survey results.

  1. Open the Survey123 website. Sign in to your ArcGIS organizational account.

    Using ArcGIS Online

Go to https://survey123.arcgis.com and click Sign In.

    Using ArcGIS Enterprise

On the bar above the map, ensure that Form view is switched on.

Edit in web app

An individual response can be edited in the web app using URL parameters.

Note:

Editing an individual response in this way is not supported for surveys that contain a nested repeat.

To edit in the web app using URL parameters, a user must be a submitter or the survey owner and be able to add and update records. For more information, see Share survey results.

  1. In a web browser, type the survey's URL with ?mode=edit&globalId= appended to it. Include the global ID for the survey record you want to edit, for example:

    https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/36ff9e8c13e042a58cfce4ad87f55d19?mode=edit&globalId=6a0b164f-365c-4b5c-8384-dddf7d2767f1

The survey opens with all answers from the initial record filled in.

    Caution:

Starting with Survey123 version 3.9, global IDs are used to designate a record to edit. The use of object IDs is deprecated.

  2. Make your changes.
    Tip:

Attachments can also be modified when editing in the web app.

  3. When you are finished editing, click the Submit button to send the data.
