To access all features of ArcGIS for Office, you must sign in to an ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise account with privileges to create, analyze, and share content. Public ArcGIS Online accounts are not supported.
Note:
To use ArcGIS for Office in the standard experience (without signing in to ArcGIS), click Continue to close the sign-in options and view the map.Sign in with an ArcGIS Online account
To sign in to your ArcGIS Online account, do the following:
- Open a map-enabled Excel worksheet or add a map to a worksheet.
The map window appears and displays sign-in options.
- Select ArcGIS Online and click Sign In.
The default ArcGIS sign-in window appears with the ArcGIS login section expanded.
- Type your ArcGIS username exactly as it was spelled when you or your administrator created your account.
- Type your password exactly as it was spelled when you or your administrator created it.
The password is case sensitive.
If you do not know your username or password, click Forgot username or Forgot password, or contact your administrator.
- Optionally, check the Keep me signed in option to stay signed in for up to two weeks unless you sign out.
Tip:
Clicking the Keep me signed in option keeps you signed in when you anchor a map.
- Click Sign in.
The map loads and the ArcGIS information is visible in the Settings pane
.
Sign in with an organization-specific login
If your ArcGIS organizational account is configured for organization-specific logins, you can use your existing organization-specific login to sign in.
To sign in with an organization-specific login, do the following:
- Open a map-enabled Excel worksheet or add a map to a worksheet.
The map window appears and displays sign-in options.
- Select ArcGIS Online and click Sign In.
The default ArcGIS sign-in window appears with the ArcGIS login section expanded.
- If necessary, click Your ArcGIS organization's URL to expand the section.
- Complete your ArcGIS organization's URL.
If you want this URL to be entered automatically the next time you sign in, check the Remember this URL check box.
- Click Continue.
- Type your ArcGIS username exactly as it was spelled when you or your administrator created your account.
- Type your password exactly as it was spelled when you or your administrator created it.
The password is case sensitive.

Sign in with an ArcGIS Enterprise account
To sign in using your organization's enterprise credentials, do the following:
- Open a map-enabled Excel worksheet or add a map to a worksheet.
The map window appears and displays sign-in options.
- Select ArcGIS Enterprise.
The URL field becomes active.
- Enter your ArcGIS organization's URL and click Sign In.
The ArcGIS sign-in window appears, displaying the name of the ArcGIS organization you specified.
- Enter your username and password.
- Optionally, check the Keep me signed in option to stay signed in for up to two weeks unless you sign out.
Tip:
Clicking the Keep me signed in option keeps you signed in when you anchor a map.
- Click Sign in.
The map loads and the ArcGIS information is visible in the Settings pane
.
Sign in with a social login
Some organizations allow their members to create an organizational account using a social login. If you chose this option, you can sign in using your GitHub, Facebook, Google, or Apple login. To sign in using a social login, do the following:
- Open a map-enabled Excel worksheet or add a map to a worksheet.
The map window appears and displays sign-in options.
- Select ArcGIS Online and click Sign In.
The default ArcGIS sign-in window appears with the ArcGIS login section expanded.
- Click the GitHub
, Facebook
, Google
, or Apple
button.
- Enter your social media credentials and sign in.
The map loads and the ArcGIS information is visible in the Settings pane
.
Note:
To sign in to ArcGIS, to create an ArcGIS public account, or to join an ArcGIS organization using an Apple login, you must have multifactor authentication (MFA) enabled on the Apple account.Note:
When you sign out of ArcGIS for Office, you are still signed in to your social network. To sign in to ArcGIS for Office with different login credentials, you first must sign out of your social network.
Sign out
To sign out of ArcGIS, do the following:
- From the map tools, select Settings
.
The Settings pane appears.
- Click Sign out.
You are disconnected from your ArcGIS account, and the map appears in the standard experience.
