System settings

The system settings for ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 are described below.

You must be an ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 administrator to manage system settings.

Supported environments

For  ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 to operate properly, Esri assumes an operational configuration of Microsoft 365. Esri tests ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 only in software environments certified as supported by Microsoft; not all supported environments have been tested or certified. For more information, see the Esri Supported Environment Policy.

ArcGIS Connectors for Power Automate supported environments

ArcGIS Connectors for Power Automate is part of the Microsoft Power Automate Online system and requires an active internet connection. ArcGIS Connectors for Power Automate is available in Power Automate Online only and is not supported in Power Automate Desktop.

ArcGIS Enterprise connector

To use the ArcGIS Enterprise connector, your organization must be running ArcGIS Enterprise 11.0 or later. The organization must also be public-facing and able to receive requests over the internet. ArcGIS Connectors for Power Automate do not support connections to disconnected ArcGIS Enterprise deployments or configurations using a Microsoft on-premises data gateway.

System requirements

Review the following sections to understand the required software, ArcGIS versions, supported browsers, and geographic coordinate systems used by each component.

Required software

The following software subscriptions are necessary before deploying ArcGIS for Microsoft 365:

  • The minimum Microsoft 365 subscription required, including the following:
    • Microsoft 365 Business Essentials
    • SharePoint Online Plan 1
  • ArcGIS for SharePointMicrosoft SharePoint Online subscription (Microsoft 365 or Office 365).
  • ArcGIS for Excel—A Microsoft 365 licensing plan that includes Excel.
  • ArcGIS for Power BIMicrosoft Power BI for Desktop, Pro, and Premium all include ArcGIS for Power BI. Some functions require a higher level user license.

ArcGIS versions

To use all features of ArcGIS for Microsoft 365, you must have an ArcGIS account with a user type that includes privileges to create, analyze, and share content in an ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise organization. You can sign up for a free trial subscription of ArcGIS Online. It is assumed that the authentication method used to access the platform has been properly configured by your ArcGIS administrator. Public ArcGIS accounts are not supported.

ArcGIS for Microsoft 365  supports the following ArcGIS versions:

  • ArcGIS Online current version
  • ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9, 10.9.1, 11.0, 11.1, or later
    • On-premises through physical hardware or virtual environment

Note:

ArcGIS for Power BI has been tested for compatibility with ArcGIS Enterprise versions 10.9, 10.9.1, and 11.0 in an online environment only.  ArcGIS for Power BI does not operate in a disconnected environment.

Microsoft Windows

¹ To use  ArcGIS for Power BI with ArcGIS Enterprise, you must configure older versions of Microsoft Edge browsers to allow the app to run properly.  macOS is only compatible with Power BI in an online environment.

In mobile environments, you can view maps created using the  ArcGIS for Power BI visualization included with Microsoft Power BI. Maps that contain premium content from ArcGIS are not supported in mobile environments.

For ArcGIS for Excel, some functionality, such as using current location in a search, is not available when using Excel online and on macOS.

Geographic coordinate systems

ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 supports the WGS84 spatial reference system.

WebGL requirements

The latest versions of the most common desktop browsers have built-in WebGL technology. Use Open WebGL to test whether your browser has WebGL enabled. To troubleshoot WebGL-related issues, visit  WebGL troubleshooting. Keep your browser up to date, as WebGL is an evolving technology and each browser version brings improvements that  ArcGIS for Microsoft 365  uses for optimal performance.

Authentication methods

You must be an ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 administrator to administer user authentication.

ArcGIS for Power BI

ArcGIS for Power BI  supports built-in authentication methods when using  ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise and  Power BI in an online environment.

ArcGIS administrators can configure the ArcGIS Online sign-in page to show only the OpenID Connect login or the OpenID Connect login along with the ArcGIS login, SAML login (if configured), and social login (if configured) options.

Accessing Report Server with ArcGIS for Power BI consumes ArcGIS credits.

In services or applications in which ArcGIS for Power BI is not available, the visualization appears as an empty visual with the Power BI logo.

ArcGIS for Power BI secure networks

The ArcGIS for Power BI visualization relies on a number of host servers and external URLs to perform various operations, including geocoding addresses, searching for points of interest, adding reference layers, and others.

To ensure that ArcGIS for Power BI operates properly in a tightly secured enterprise network, you must add the following URLs to the list of addresses that your network can access. HTTPS connections require Port 443 to be open.

Note:

For ArcGIS for Power BI, the local Power BI environment determines the language used. In the Power BI service (powerbi.com), ArcGIS for Power BI uses the same language as the service. In Power BI Desktop, ArcGIS for Power BI uses the language of the installed software. If you are using an unsupported language, the visualization uses English.

The language used in the Windows version of the add-in is determined by your operating system's language setting. If you are using an unsupported language setting, the add-in uses English.
