Route in Navigator

Mobile workers can create and edit routes in Navigator, or they can use shared routes (learn how to create shared routes).

Create, edit, and use routes

Create a route in Navigator by doing the following:

  1. Open Navigator and sign in.
  2. If you don't already have a map open, go to the Maps list and tap a map to open or download it. Once downloaded, tap the map again to open it.
  3. There are three ways to start creating a route in Navigator:
    • Search—Tap Places and use the Search bar to search for a place-name, address, coordinate location, or asset. Search honors what is configured in the map. Tap a search result to see the location on the map and get options for generating directions in the panel.
    • Drop a pin—Long press to use a magnifier and drop a pin at a location of interest. Options for generating directions are shown in the panel.
    • Tap an asset—If the map includes assets, tap an asset to get options for generating directions in the panel.

When searching for places, coordinates can be entered in the following formats:

    Route options

Use the following options to view your route details or modify your route:

    • Go—Start navigating from your current location to the place you selected.
    • Details—Provides a list of turn-by-turn directions.
    • Travel—Select the travel type and mode.
    • Add Stop—Search for a stop and add it to your route.
      Note:

You can also drop a pin or tap an asset on the map to add a stop.

    • Edit Route—This option appears when you have two or more stops in your route. Long press and drag the handle (Drag handle) next to each stop in the list to reorder the stops in the route. Swipe left on a stop to delete it.
    • Optimize—This option appears if your stops are not in the optimal order based on the travel type and mode selected under Travel. Tap Optimize to reorder the stops optimally based on your Travel selections. This cannot be undone, but you can manually reorder the stops.
  5. Once you're ready to start your route, tap Go to start navigation.

While navigating, you can do the following:

    • Pan and zoom on the map—You can view other parts of your route by zooming in and out or panning the map.
    • Pause navigation—Tap End. This returns you to the current map and shows you options to view the details of your route, modify the route, or resume the route, picking up from where you left off. If you exit the panel or exit Navigator, the route will end and cannot be resumed.
    • Mark stop as visited—Skip the current stop and begin navigating to the next one.
    • Voice setting—Turn the voiced instructions on or off.

Use shared routes

Routes that have been shared with your organization or groups within your organization are downloaded automatically in Navigator. Mobile workers can search for, select, and use any routes that are available to them.

Use a shared route in Navigator by doing the following:

  1. Open Navigator and sign in.
  2. If you don't already have a map open, go to the Maps list and tap a map to open or download it. Once downloaded, tap the map again to open it.
    Note:

The available shared routes are those that overlap completely with the open map in Navigator. A data connection is required to retrieve shared routes. To update shared routes, refresh the maps or routes.

  3. Tap Routes to see routes that have been shared with you and are available for use with your current map. Use the Search bar to search for shared routes. Tap a shared route to show it on the map and see options for generating directions and viewing route details in the panel.
  4. Swipe the panel up and use the following options to start navigating or view route details:
    • Go—Start navigating on the shared route.
    • Details—Provides a list of turn-by-turn directions.
  5. Once you're ready to start the route, tap Go to start navigation.

While navigating, you can do the following:

    • Pan and zoom on the map—You can view other parts of the route by zooming in and out or panning the map.
    • Pause navigation—Tap End. This returns you to the current map, where you can view the route details or resume the route, picking up from where you left off. If you exit the panel or exit Navigator, the route will end and cannot be resumed.
    • Mark stop as visited—Skip the current stop and begin navigating to the next one.
    • Voice setting—Turn the voiced instructions on or off.
