Install ArcGIS Monitor Server

The following steps guide you through the ArcGIS Monitor Server installation process. You can install Monitor Server using the installation wizard or perform a silent installation using the command line. If you're deploying ArcGIS Monitor in multiple distributed network environments, you'll also need to install ArcGIS Monitor Agent on a system in each of the remaining network environments.

Tip:

The installation method that you use does not affect the uninstallation process. For example, if you install from the command prompt window, you can uninstall using either the command prompt window or the wizard.

Prepare for the installation

Before you install Monitor Server, do the following:

  1. Sign in to My Esri and download the software and authorization file.
    1. Click the Downloads tab and click All Products and Versions.
    2. Click the All Versions tab.
    3. Click View Downloads next to ArcGIS Monitor to download the software.
    4. Click the Licensing tab and click Start Licensing.
    5. Click Other Products to download your ArcGIS Monitor license file.
  2. Verify that your machine meets the system requirements.

You must install or configure a database instance for the Monitor repository before you install Monitor.

  3. Create the ArcGIS Monitor account.

You can now proceed with the Monitor Server installation.

Install the software

To install Monitor Server, complete the following steps:

  1. Browse to the location of the extracted setup files and double-click Setup.exe.
  2. During the installation, read the master agreement and accept it, or exit if you do not agree with the terms.
  3. When the installation wizard asks which feature you want to install, choose ArcGIS Monitor Server.
    Note:

Monitor Server and Monitor Agent cannot be installed on the same machine.

  4. Specify the account to be used by Monitor Server to manage monitoring services.

You are presented with two options: Specify the account name and password and I have a configuration file with the account information generated by a previous run of this setup.

    • The Specify the account name and password option allows you to directly specify the account name and password. The account used can be a local account, domain account, or Managed Service Account. The account you specify does not need to be part of the Administrators group. If you use a Managed Service Account, the account must already be configured for your machine. If you use a local operating system account, the account is created automatically if it does not exist. The default account name is arcgis.

      Note:

Creating a local account during the installation is primarily for the convenience of quickly installing Monitor. For production systems, it is recommended that you use an existing account that resides on your domain or in an active directory that adheres to your organization's security policy.

If you are using a domain account, it must already exist on the domain and be in the following format: mydomain\domainaccount.

    • If you have a configuration file that was generated by running the Monitor setup, choose the I have a configuration file with the account information generated by a previous run of this setup option and browse to the location of the configuration file. The ArcGIS Monitor account is automatically configured with account information stored in the configuration file.
  5. If you chose Specify the account name and password and manually provided the ArcGIS Monitor account information, you can export a configuration file using the next dialog box.
    • To export a configuration file for future installations, choose Export configuration file. Browse to a secure folder and provide a name for the configuration file. The ArcGIS Monitor account information is exported to the specified configuration file.
    • If you do not want to export a configuration file, click Next and accept the default Do not export configuration file option.
      Note:

Exporting a configuration file allows you to do the following:

      • Create the same ArcGIS Monitor account when installing in multiple network environments.
      • Store the account for use when upgrading to a newer version.
      • Perform a silent installation in which the username and password are encrypted.
      Caution:

When exporting a configuration file to a network share, the LocalSystem account on the machine where Monitor is being installed must have write permissions to the network share. For example, if you're installing on a machine named Quick, the LocalSystem account on Quick must have write permission to the network share. If permissions are not set, the configuration file may not be exported successfully. If you are unsure how to correctly set permissions for the network share, contact your system administrator or export the configuration file locally and copy it to the network share.

  6. Follow the directions on the screen to complete the installation.

Once the software installation is complete, use the software authorization wizard to authorize ArcGIS Monitor Server.
