ArcGIS

Esri Maps for IBM Cognos requires an ArcGIS Online organizational subscription or an on-premises Portal for ArcGIS deployment. It is assumed that the authentication method used to access the platform has been properly configured by your ArcGIS administrator.

Esri Maps for IBM Cognos 6.1.1 supports the following ArcGIS versions:

• ArcGIS Online—Current version
• Portal for ArcGIS—10.3, 10.3.1, 10.4, 10.4.1

IBM Cognos versions

In general, it is Esri's policy to support newly released IBM Cognos Fix Packs 60 days after they have been made available for download.

The following table shows which versions and Fix Packs of IBM Cognos are supported for each version of Esri Maps for IBM Cognos:

* Esri Maps for IBM Cognos 6.0.1 and later support IBM Cognos Express 10.2.2 in addition to IBM Cognos Enterprise.

Operating systems

IBM certifies and supports operating systems that are compatible with a set of CPU chipsets, referred to as CPU architectures. Esri tests Esri Maps for IBM Cognos on a subset of the operating systems (and chipsets) listed as active by IBM. The list Esri tests is based on market research and existing client configurations.

The following table shows which operating systems are supported for each version of Esri Maps for IBM Cognos:

Web browsers

Esri does not test all combinations of web browsers (and the underlying client operating systems) listed as supported by IBM. Rather, a subset of web browsers is selected, and testing is performed on the most recent operating systems. Not all selected browsers are tested on all identified operating systems.

Similarly, Esri performs robust browser testing on the Windows platform only. It is expected, however, that Esri Maps for IBM Cognos will function as expected on non-Windows clients if one of the web browsers listed below is used. If this is not your experience, please contact Esri Technical Support to ask that your particular operating system and web browser be tested.

The following table shows which browsers have been tested in each version of Esri Maps for IBM Cognos:

* Heat maps are not compatible with IBM Cognos running in Internet Explorer. In Esri Maps for IBM Cognos 6.0.1 and earlier, pie chart clusters are also not compatible with IBM Cognos running in Internet Explorer. For more information, see knowledge base article 000012099.

º Internet Explorer 8 and 9 are no longer supported.

** Internet Explorer 10 and 11 are supported only in compatibility mode.

Google Chrome for Android and Apple Safari on iOS browsers are only supported for report consumers. Esri Maps Designer is not supported in these browsers.

For improved rendering of map features and graphics in Internet Explorer, it is recommended that Silverlight 5.x be downloaded and installed on the client.

Support

IBM Cognos requires several third-party components to be configured in order to function properly. These components include application servers, web servers, database servers, Java runtime libraries, and so on. IBM Technical Support aids in the deployment of IBM Cognos with these components. Esri Technical Support aids in the deployment (and use) of Esri Maps for IBM Cognos.

Esri Technical Support analysts are not experts in all possible configurations of IBM Cognos. Similarly, IBM Technical Support engineers are not experts in all the third-party components that are required for an operational configuration of Esri Maps for IBM Cognos. If you are experiencing a problem configuring IBM Cognos, it is often more efficient to obtain help from IBM Technical Support. Similarly, if you are experiencing a configuration problem with third-party components, it is more efficient to get help from the third party's support organization. In cases where a problem is deemed to be in Esri Maps for IBM Cognos, Esri Technical Support can be available to work with IBM Technical Support and/or third-party vendors and/or their consultants.
