Introduction to ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud

ArcGIS Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud is an extension for Adobe Illustrator that allows cartographers and graphic designers to design compelling visuals using data-driven maps and layers from ArcGIS. You can find, import, and create geographic content to add to your maps as editable vector layers and high-resolution images.

What you can do with Maps for Adobe Creative Cloud

Create a map from start to finish without needing to leave Adobe Illustrator. Access street maps, political boundaries, terrain, satellite images, and more kinds of spatial data. Open and edit maps from ArcGIS Pro and Map Viewer with their elements organized into editable layers.

Create maps

Choose the scale and extent for your map by creating a mapboard. Add content from your ArcGIS organization, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World, and from local storage. Sync data to download this content to Adobe Illustrator as artwork to add to your map.

Make a map in ArcGIS Pro, edit it in Illustrator

You can export maps and layouts from ArcGIS Pro and Map Viewer as .aix files and use the extension to open them in Illustrator. The extension organizes map layers, labels, and chart elements into editable layers.

Modify symbols and lines

You can use processes to modify map elements. The Symbols, Brushes, and Swatches processes allow you to replace default map symbology with custom styles and symbols from your Adobe Illustrator libraries. The Join Lines process allows you to link selected open paths into one continuous path.

Design simply and efficiently

Edit and refine your maps using all the design features offered by Adobe Illustrator. Re-shape polygons, change colors and fonts, and draw new map elements. Apply saved swatches, symbols, and brushes to a map to align it with your art style or branding. Change layer symbology with drawing styles that are suggested based on your data.

When you export a map from ArcGIS Pro or Map Viewer and open it in Illustrator, map layers and chart elements are automatically organized into editable layers in the Illustrator Layers tab. You can replace any raster symbols with vector symbols from an Adobe Illustrator symbols library, and the extension comes with symbols libraries with vector versions of ArcGIS callout symbols, north arrows, and places point symbols.
