Introduction to ArcGIS Indoors for AutoCAD

You can use the ArcGIS Indoors for AutoCAD extension to ArcGIS for AutoCAD to help prepare CAD floor plan drawings from AutoCAD for use in ArcGIS Indoors.

Use the Indoors for AutoCAD extension to perform quality control workflows on CAD data. The Indoors for AutoCAD extension analyzes the CAD data for rooms, corridors, and other traversable spaces—collectively referred to as units—for data issues that can affect importing CAD data to GIS data. You can analyze the data issues described below using the Indoors for AutoCAD extension:

  • Unclosed shape—A polygon entity with open geometry.
  • Self intersection—A polyline entity that crosses over itself.
  • Unit name missing—No name attribute for a unit was found.
  • Unit name not unique—Multiple units have the same name, or a unit has multiple names.
  • Unit use type missing—No description for a unit was found.
  • Unit use type not identical—Multiple descriptions for a single unit do not match.
  • Unit use type not standard—No description of a unit was found in a list of standard descriptions.

The ArcGIS Indoors for AutoCAD extension is installed automatically when you install ArcGIS for AutoCAD. To access the Indoors for AutoCAD extension after installing ArcGIS for AutoCAD, click Indoors in the Extensions group on the ArcGIS for AutoCAD ribbon.
