Velocity is a real-time processing and analysis extension for ArcGIS Enterprise. It allows you to ingest, visualize, analyze, store, and act on data from Internet of Things (IoT) sensors. High-velocity event data can be filtered, processed, and sent to multiple destinations, allowing you to connect to virtually any type of streaming data and automatically alert personnel when specified conditions occur. You can use these capabilities for activities, such as transforming data, geofencing, and incident detection.
Velocity includes an app that allows users to create the following:
- Feeds—Real-time data ingestion and visualization
- Real-time analytics—Real-time processing to identify an activity of interest and take appropriate action.
- Feature and map layers—High-volume data visualization through on-the-fly aggregations.
- Stream layers—High-velocity, live data visualization
Velocity is useful for workflows dealing with observations received from IoT devices and sensors as well as for other sources of real-time data. It provides ways to ingest and immediately visualize real-time information, as well as store observations over time. Velocity also allows you to build analytical processes to automate workflows and answer questions.

Yes, GeoEvent Server is planned for eventual deprecation. The goal is to deliver a unified real-time GIS experience by integrating the interface, feed management, and real-time analytics capabilities of Velocity into the Enterprise environment. This integrated solution serves as the replacement for GeoEvent Server. The deprecation will not begin until Velocity achieves functional equivalency with GeoEvent Server, meaning most workflows can be achieved with Velocity for Enterprise.Velocity and a migration path is provided for current GeoEvent Server customers. Once deprecation begins, GeoEvent Server will be supported according to Esri's standard product life cycle policy, providing several years of support.
What is the licensing for ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Enterprise when it is released? Will it be different than ArcGIS GeoEvent Server?
Velocity for Enterprise follows the same licensing model as GeoEvent Server as follows;
- Perpetual or subscription—Available as a perpetual license with annual maintenance or as a subscription license.
- Core-based licensing—Pricing is determined by the number of cores on the machine where Velocity Server is installed. The minimum configuration includes four cores for the first server.
Velocity for ArcGIS Online and Velocity for Enterprise supports the gRPC feed type for custom ingestion using the development language of your choice.

How is ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Enterprise different from ArcGIS GeoEvent Server and ArcGIS Velocity for ArcGIS Online?
At a product level, both GeoEvent Server and Velocity are components of the ArcGIS platform. Both provide the capability to ingest sensor data, adapt the data to create event records that can be processed using configurable filters and processors, and disseminate data from processed event records—for example, by adding and updating feature records in a geodatabase.
GeoEvent Server is an advanced server role for Enterprise. A GeoEvent Server license unlocks real-time capabilities for Enterprise. Velocity offers similar capabilities through ArcGIS Online as a SaaS. Velocity for Enterprise product development targets a self-hosted solution for real-time capabilities that uses Enterprise components such as a portal.
