In ArcGIS Urban, you can analyze data in conjunction with the plans and projects of a city. To accomplish this, add custom indicator data to the overview.
In addition to custom indicators, the USA Default template includes predefined ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World indicators for cities in the United States. See the Get Started section to learn more about ArcGIS Living Atlas indicators and setting up ArcGIS Urban with the USA Default template.
Add and configure a custom indicator
A custom indicator can consist of a name, a description, a start and end date, an external layer (a scene layer or a web scene), and a dashboard.
To create a custom indicator, complete the following steps:
Note:
- Editing privileges are required on the urban model to add and configure custom indicators.
- In this section, a web scene is considered a collection of multiple external layers. However, you can also add an individual scene layer, such as a point cloud.
- Start ArcGIS Urban and sign in.
- Click the Add button in the upper right of the header in the overview.
The drop-down list expands.
- Choose Indicator.
The Indicator settings dialog box appears.
- On the General tab, provide a name, description, and start and end date. You can also mark the indicator as featured.
- You can style the indicator description with markdown syntax elements. See Description styling to learn more.
- Featured indicators are displayed at the top of the indicators list.
- Click the Sources tab.
- If you have published a web scene and a dashboard that can be used for an indicator, click Select item to select them using the Select external layers or the Select dashboard dialog box. Once configured, click OK in the lower right corner of the Sources tab. The custom indicator is listed in the side panel in the overview. Once the indicator is clicked, it appears in the view.
- If you have not published a web scene and dashboard, continue with the steps below.
The indicator layers in the web scene must be in the same coordinate system as the urban model, with the exception of noncached layers such as feature layers. See Understanding local and global urban models to learn more.
- Create a web scene in your organization. See Create a global or local scene and Add layers to scenes to learn more about creating web scenes.
- Start ArcGIS Urban and choose the saved web scene in the external layers section of the Indicator settings dialog box.
