System requirements

There are certain browser and software requirements to run each element of Survey123.

Online requirements

Online connectivity is needed to access the Survey123 API and ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. For this reason, a connection to the internet and access to either ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise are required for Survey123 Connect and the Survey123 website, as well as for the Survey123 field app to download and submit surveys.

ArcGIS requirements

The different user types and roles in ArcGIS organizations have access to different features of ArcGIS Survey123. Refer to the following table for details, and for further information, see User types, roles, and privileges for ArcGIS Online or User types, roles, and privileges for ArcGIS Enterprise.

Note:

In ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6 or earlier, a Level 2 user role is required.

The Lite, Basic, and Standard user types don't come with any licenses or bundles. However, they can use features of Survey123 if assigned the Essential Apps Bundle, Field Apps Bundle, or Survey123 add-on license.

Note:

The Essential Apps Bundle does not provide access to the Survey123 field app. Either the Field Apps Bundle or Survey123 add-on license is required.

Note:

Public surveys can be completed using both the web app and the field app and do not require an ArcGIS account of any user type.

You can use ArcGIS roles to restrict privileges that are initially included with a user type. For example, if a Creator user type is assigned a User role, its privileges to publish feature layers are revoked. Similarly, if a Field Worker user type is assigned a Viewer role, its privileges will be similar to those of a Viewer user type.

ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise 10.5 and later are supported. Portal for ArcGIS 10.4 and 10.4.1 are also supported. For more information about ArcGIS Enterprise, see Use Survey123 with ArcGIS Enterprise.

Note:

These locales can also be used by the Survey123 website to set number and date formats. For more information, see Set language and region in ArcGIS Online or Set language in ArcGIS Enterprise.

For the Survey123 field app and Survey123 Connect, the default language used is determined by your device's language setting.

For the Survey123 web app and website, the default language used is determined by your ArcGIS organization user language setting. When a user is not signed into an ArcGIS organization, the web browser settings are used in the web app and website.

By default, form content displays in the language listed in the default_language column of the settings worksheet of the XLSForm. If the language listed in the default_language column is changed to one of the languages listed in the above table, the app language changes to match.

You can include translations for survey questions in any language, not just the ones listed above. For more information, see Manage multiple languages.
