There are certain browser and software requirements to run each element of Survey123.
Online requirements
Online connectivity is needed to access the Survey123 API and ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. For this reason, a connection to the internet and access to either ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise are required for Survey123 Connect and the Survey123 website, as well as for the Survey123 field app to download and submit surveys.
ArcGIS requirements
ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6 and later are supported. For more information about ArcGIS Enterprise, see Use Survey123 with ArcGIS Enterprise.
The various user types and roles in ArcGIS organizations have access to different features of ArcGIS Survey123. You can also use ArcGIS roles to restrict privileges that are initially included with a user type. For example, if a Creator user type is assigned a User role, its privileges to publish feature layers are revoked. Similarly, if a Mobile Worker user type is assigned a Viewer role, its privileges will be similar to those of a Viewer user type. For more information, see User types, roles, and privileges for ArcGIS Online or User types, roles, and privileges for ArcGIS Enterprise.
Note:
In ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6 a Level 2 user role is required for everything except analyzing results in the Survey123 website, where a Level 1 user role can be used.
The following table describes which features of Survey123 each user type can access:
User type | Fill in surveys in Survey123 web app | Fill in surveys in Survey123 field app | Analyze results in Survey123 website | Create surveys in Survey123 website | Create surveys in Survey123 Connect |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Creator | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Editor | Yes | Yes¹ | Yes | No | No |
Mobile Worker | Yes | Yes | Yes | No | No |
GIS Professional (Basic, Standard, and Advanced) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Viewer | No | No | Yes | No | No |
None (anonymous) | Yes² | Yes² | Yes³ | No | No |
¹Must be assigned a field app or Survey123 add-on license.
²Public surveys only. Public surveys can be completed in both the web app and the field app and do not require an ArcGIS account.
³Survey results must be shared with everyone (public).

The following desktop browsers are supported. The web app also supports mobile version of Google Chrome and Safari. For more information on supported version numbers and other considerations, see Supported browsers for ArcGIS Online.

Hardware requirements are not listed for Android and iOS because on these platforms the operating system version is the best indicator of whether the Survey123 field app is supported on that device.
Hardware requirements for Spike
Survey123 supports integration with Spike, a laser measurement solution developed by ikeGPS that allows you to capture the measurements and location of an object from a photo. For information about devices supported by the Spike hardware, see the Spike Support.

When using English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian language codes in a Survey123 report template or as a parameter for the web app, you can also use the following locales to set the number, date, and time format:
Number and date format | Locale |
---|---|
English (Australia) | en-au |
English (Canada) | en-ca |
English (Great Britain) | en-gb |
French (Switzerland) | fr-ch |
German (Switzerland) | de-ch |
Italian (Switzerland) | it-ch |
Spanish (Mexico) | es-mx |
Spanish (Spain) | es-es |
Note:
These locales can also be used by the Survey123 website to set number and date formats. For more information, see Set language and region in ArcGIS Online or Set language in ArcGIS Enterprise.
For the Survey123 field app and Survey123 Connect, the default language used is determined by your device's language setting.
For the Survey123 web app and website, the default language used is determined by your ArcGIS organization user language setting. When a user is not signed in to an ArcGIS organization, the web browser settings are used in the web app and website.
By default, form content displays in the language listed in the default_language column of the settings worksheet of the XLSForm. If the language listed in the default_language column is changed to one of the languages listed in the above table, the app language changes to match.
Note:
When you use a four-letter language code in the column title of an XLSForm, you will see the following warning when you update the form preview: The following language declarations do not contain valid machine-readable codes: 中文 (zh-cn). Learn more: http://xlsform.org/#language. The survey will still publish successfully, and if your four-letter code is a supported language, the menus, buttons, and other user interface elements in Survey123 will change when the language is selected.
You can include translations for survey questions in any language, not only the ones listed above. For more information, see Manage multiple languages.
