Add indicators

An indicator is a card that you can add to an analysis view to display a summary statistic, such as the current number of critical alerts for a particular collection. Indicators can be configured to include icons to help provide visual context. Complete the following steps to add an indicator to an analysis view:

  1. Access edit mode for the analysis view to which you want to add an indicator.
  2. Click Add element > Indicator.

    The Select data expression dialog box appears with a list of the analysis view's data expressions.

  3. Click New data expression or continue with step 8 to use an existing expression.

    The Edit data expression dialog box appears.

  4. Provide a name for the expression in the Name text box.
  5. Use the expression builder to choose the type of data that you want to display in the indicator.

    For example, to build an expression that contains the number of open critical alerts for all components, do the following:

    1. Click Resource and choose Alerts.
    2. Click Where next to Alerts.

      The where clause appears under Alerts.

    3. Click the Select a field drop-down arrow and choose Status.
    4. Leave the operator set to is.
    5. Click the Select drop-down arrow and choose Critical.
      Tip:

      To provide your own value, click Source type: Choose value Source type: Choose value and click Enter value.

    6. Click Rule under Alerts.

      The clause appears under Alerts.

    7. Click the Select a field drop-down arrow and choose Closed at.
    8. Click the operator drop-down arrow and change it from is on to never.
  6. Optionally, click Test to test the expression.

    Data that matches the expression appears on the tabs next to the expression.

  7. Click Done.

    The expression appears in the Data expressions list.

    Tip:

    You can duplicate an expression and use it as a base for similar types of data by clicking Duplicate Duplicate, edit an expression by clicking Edit Edit, and delete an expression by clicking Delete Delete.

  8. Choose an expression in the list and click Select.

    The Indicator dialog box appears.

  9. Click the Statistic type drop-down arrow and choose the type of statistic that you want to show.

    For example, to show the total number of items returned by the expression, choose Count.

    Tip:

    Click the tabs under the indicator's preview to view the data returned by the data expression.

  10. Click the Statistic field drop-down arrow and choose the field that contains the data that you want to evaluate using the chosen Statistic type setting.

    For example, to show a count of the total number of items returned by the data expression, choose ID.

  11. Optionally, click Add date filter and choose a date field on the Date filter field drop-down menu to allow the chart to be filtered by the analysis view's time range options.
    Note:

    If the field you chose for Statistic field is a datetime field, date filtering is automatically enabled.

    Tip:

    To turn off date filtering, click Disable date filter Disable date filter.

  12. Click Indicator on the side of the dialog box.

    The Indicator tab appears.

  13. Choose the type of the statistic you want to show next to Value format.

    The indicator preview is updated to match the chosen indicator options.

  14. Optionally, provide a prefix the for the value in the Prefix text box.
  15. Optionally, provide a suffix the for the value in the Suffix text box.
  16. Optionally, turn on the Symbology toggle button to add a symbol to the indicator.
    1. Choose where you want the icon to be positioned next to Icon position.
    2. Choose an icon for the indicator.
  17. Click General on the side of the dialog box.

    The General tab appears.

  18. Optionally, provide a title for the indicator in the Title text box.
  19. Optionally, provide a description for the indicator in the Description text box.
  20. Click Done.

    The indicator appears in the analysis view.

  21. Hover over the indicator and use the buttons to perform the following actions:
    • Drag Move Move to move the indicator to a new location in the analysis view.
    • Click Configure Configure to edit the indicator.
    • Click Duplicate Duplicate to duplicate the indicator.
    • Click Delete Delete to delete the indicator.
    • Drag Resize Resize to change the size of the indicator as necessary.
  22. When you're finished adding elements to the analysis view, click Save.
    Tip:

    You can also click the Save drop-down arrow and click Save as to save the analysis view with a new name and description.
