Save an autogenerated layer as a permanent layer
When you build a map-enabled report with MicroStrategy data that has an associated Location Architect model, a layer is automatically added to the map based on the properties defined in the model. This is called an autogenerated layer.
An autogenerated layer is not saved to the map. Rather, each time the map is loaded, the layer is regenerated based on the latest properties set in the model and the current contents of the report grid dataset. If you want to make changes to the layer, such as change the way it is styled, and save these changes with the report, you must first make the layer permanent.
You also need to make an autogenerated layer permanent if you want to use the report visualization in a document. If you don't make the autogenerated layer a permanent layer before adding the report to a document, the layer may not display on the map.
You may need to add fields to your grid before you can make the layer permanent. For example, if the grid contains a Customer field but does not have the customer address fields required to display the customer addresses on the map, you will be prompted to add these fields to the grid before making the layer permanent.
- In the Contents pane, click the Configure layer button
beside the autogenerated layer. - Click the On/Off selector beside Make layer permanent to make the autogenerated layer a permanent layer.
- If the grid is missing fields required to display the data on the map, you will be prompted to add these fields to the grid. Click Yes and add the required fields.
- Once you've finished adding the fields, repeat step 3 and save the report.
The autogenerated layer is saved as a permanent layer. The report visualization can now be used in a document.
