Visualize location analysis tools

The extension includes several tools to analyze your maps and data. For example, you can visualize routes and travel times, create geographic buffers around features, and add demographic attributes to existing layers.

Note:

For ArcGIS Enterprise accounts, see the associated configuration requirements for using these tools.

Create Buffers

The Create Buffers tool creates areas around input point, line, or area features to a specified distance.

Only features that are visible within the current map extent will be buffered. To create multiple buffers, type the distance and separate each by a space.

Visualize Routes

Similar to the Connect Origins to Destinations tool, the Visualize Routes tool uses Esri Service Areas to create routes that connect pairs of points and measure the time or distance between them using straight lines or travel modes such as walking and driving.

Note:

The options will vary from those available in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.

Two input point layers are required: one with the origins and one with destinations. Layers must have the same number of records, or one layer must have one record only. Inputs can have no more than 5,000 points. The tool creates a layer of route lines between each origin and destination. Use the attributes pop-up to view travel time or distance measurements for the routes and, optionally, label them.

Note:

Running this tool consumes credits (except for ArcGIS Enterprise accounts when the portal is not configured to use utility services from ArcGIS Online).

Your account must be granted the Network Analysis privilege to use the optional travel modes available with this tool.

Visualize Travel Times

Similar to the Create Drive-Time Areas tool, the Visualize Travel Times tool uses Esri Service Areas to calculate the area that can be reached within a specified travel time or travel distance along a street network based on travel mode.

The input is a single layer of points up to 1,000 features. You can create multiple output areas by inputting each time or distance, separated by a space.

Note:

Running this tool consumes credits (except for ArcGIS Enterprise accounts when the portal is not configured to use utility services from ArcGIS Online).

Your account must be granted the Network Analysis privilege to use this tool.

Add Demographic Data

This tool gives you demographic and landscape data for the people, places, and boundaries associated with your point, line, or area data locations. It uses the ArcGIS GeoEnrichment service.

The input data to be enriched can be any point, line, or area features. The Add Demographic Data tool uses data apportionment to provide accurate data estimates, even for your own custom geometry. To learn more about enriching layers, see the Enrich Layer help topic.

Note:

Running this tool consumes credits (except for ArcGIS Enterprise accounts when the portal is not configured to use utility services from ArcGIS Online).

Your account must be granted the GeoEnrichment privilege to use this tool. (You also need the Network Analysis privilege to use the optional parameter to enrich layers based on travel modes.)

Data Browser

When you click Select Variables, the Data Browser dialog box appears. It displays all the variables available with the Add Demographic Data tool. Data availability depends on the location of your features.
