World Imagery

World Imagery basemap

Map Service Name: World_Imagery

Description: World Imagery provides one-meter or better satellite and aerial imagery in many parts of the world and lower-resolution satellite imagery worldwide. The map includes 15-meter TerraColor imagery at small and mid-scales (1:591M down to 1:72k) and 2.5-meter SPOT Imagery (1:288k to 1:72k) for the world, and USGS 15-meter Landsat imagery for Antarctica. The map features 0.3-meter resolution imagery in the continental United States and 0.6-meter resolution imagery in parts of Western Europe from Maxar. In other parts of the world, one-meter resolution imagery is available from GeoEye IKONOS, Getmapping, AeroGRID, and IGP Portugal. One-meter USDA NAIP imagery is available in select states of the United States. Additionally, imagery at different resolutions was contributed by the GIS user community.

Metadata: When the data appliance is installed, citation data (also known as metadata) is automatically exposed through the REST endpoint for the World_Imagery service. These are not feature services but rather feature layers within a map service. The key difference is that feature layers can be queried, but they cannot be edited. With the Identify tool in ArcMap, you can see the resolution, collection date, and source of the imagery at the location you click. Values of 99999 mean that metadata is not available for that field. The metadata applies only to the best available imagery at that location. You may need to zoom in to view the best available imagery.

You can view the citation layer at http://<services.arcgisonline.com>/arcgis/rest/services/World_Imagery/MapServer/4 (substitute <services.arcgisonline.com> with the local ArcGIS server name).
