This version of ArcGIS Data Appliance: Esri Vector Basemaps includes two different Editions of the basemap styles to account for specific map labels and boundary depictions. Existing styles are updated. There are also new multisource style options that use new vector contour and hillshade packages. The vector tile packages contain updated global data from a variety of sources including commercial, authoritative agencies, and open-source providers, as well as local authoritative data from the Esri Community Maps Program. The sections below contain more detailed information.
World Edition
The ArcGIS Data Appliance 2026 update of ArcGIS Data Appliance: Esri Vector Basemaps contains two updated vector tile packages (.vtpk files) used to publish as hosted vector tile services in an ArcGIS Enterprise portal. One is in the Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere (WMA) projection and the other is in the WGS84/GCS (GCS) tiling scheme. Map styles can be published as vector tile layers for each option.
The World Edition styles provide a nonspecific international view of the world. These maps can be customized for country-specific basemaps for your preferred treatment of boundaries and place names.
New and existing users
These vector tile packages contain updated global data from a variety of sources including commercial, authoritative agencies, and open-source providers, as well as local authoritative data from the Esri Community Maps Program.
Existing users of the vector basemaps in ArcGIS Data Appliance 2026 can update the hosted tile layer and 60 World Edition style items from ArcGIS Data Appliance 2025. The updated VectorStyleUpdater toolbox uses a template of existing item IDs and can be run in ArcGIS Pro.
New users can publish any or all of the full set of 60 World Edition map styles. See the Directory of Esri Vector Basemaps map styles for details.
Vector contours and hillshade (multisource)
New and existing users of Esri Vector Basemaps in WMA format can now publish supplemental vector contours and hillshade data, which was previously only available in raster format on Collections 1 through 5. There are six new multisource map styles included with this new option. This option is available with both the World and U.S. Editions in WMA format. See the Directory of Esri Vector Basemaps map styles for details.
U.S. Edition
ArcGIS Data Appliance 2026: Esri Vector Basemaps is the first release of the U.S. Edition, which includes the same global data and coverage as the World Edition, with U.S. labels. It is available in both WMA and GCS formats. WMA format includes 34 U.S. Edition map styles, and GCS format includes 33 U.S. Edition map styles. See the Directory of Esri Vector Basemaps map styles for details.
The U.S. Edition styles include updated place names defined by the U.S. Government, as well as treatments of several disputed boundaries and places defined by the U.S. State Department.
Note:
Existing customers who want to use the U.S. Edition should follow the set up instructions for a new user.
