Get directions

Directions provide you with a set of turn-by-turn driving or walking paths and show the route on the map once you sign in to your organization with privileges to perform network analysis. Directions allow you to set different travel modes, add and switch stops, and save the route as a .kmz file to share with others.

Configure a route

To configure a route, complete the following steps:

  1. Do one of the following to start a route:
    • Click the Directions button Directions to open the panel after clicking Search Search in the upper right corner.
    • Right-click any point or search result on the map and choose Get directions from the context menu.
    • Right-click any .kml point file in the table of contents and choose Get directions from the context menu.
    • Search for places or addresses in the search tool and click the Get directions button Get directions next to the search box.
Once the start point and endpoint are defined, a route analysis is performed, direction information appears in the panel, and the route appears on the map.
  2. Optionally, do any of the following to make changes to the stops:
    • Click the Reverse stops button Reverse to reverse the order of stops in the route.
    • If you have three or more destinations and want to remove any of them, click the Remove stop button Remove next to a destination to remove it.
    • Click the Clear all button Clear all to clear all stops.
    • Drag the Reorder handles Reorder to modify the order of stops in a route.
  3. Optionally, choose an appropriate travel mode from the travel mode drop-down menu. The default travel mode is set through your organization. The available options depend on the travel mode configured by the organization.
Tip:

The drop-down arrow next to the stop input lists available locators preconfigured by the organization. You can choose an appropriate locator to browse to the destinations.

Note:
  • Credits are consumed when a route is generated, destinations are modified, or the order is optimized.
  • If a route is not within a supported network coverage area, a message notifies you that it can't find a way there.

View and share the route

To view and share the route, complete the following steps:

  1. Do one of the following to view the routing results:
    • Click Overview Overview to zoom out and observe the entire route.
    • Double-click any route segment to fly to that segment and view more details.
  2. To share the results of the direction, click Export as KMZ Export as KMZ to save routes locally. The exported KMZ folder can be added directly to the table of contents, which contains three subfolders:
    • Stops folder—Include all stops in the route.
    • Paths folder—Include all path segments in the route.
    • Overview folder—Include the overview of route with a full record of the time consumed and the distance traveled from the start to the end.
Tip:

After adding the exported KMZ folder back into the table of contents, you can click each stop on the map to view a pop-up window with its details, route segment, and overview.
