ArcGIS Enterprise configuration

Note:

This topic only applies to ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7 and 10.7.1. If you are using ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8 or 10.8.1, the Classic version of the Workforce web app is installed by default.

The latest version of the Workforce web app, which allows you to create projects enabled for offline use that are supported in ArcGIS Workforce, is installed by default on ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9 and later.

To access the latest version of the Workforce web app on ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1, you must install the Portal for ArcGIS 10.8.1 ArcGIS Workforce General Patch.

Before ArcGIS Enterprise users can create projects and manage mobile workers through ArcGIS Workforce, you need to set up ArcGIS Enterprise and install ArcGIS Workforce on your Windows or Linux machine.

Requirements

To install Workforce on ArcGIS Enterprise, you need a base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment using ArcGIS Enterprise 10.5.1 or later. The ArcGIS Workforce setup must be run on all machines running the Portal for ArcGIS component. For high-availability configurations of ArcGIS Enterprise, the ArcGIS Workforce setup must be installed on both the primary and secondary portal machines.

Supported versions

While Workforce is supported on ArcGIS Enterprise 10.5.1 or later, the version of Workforce that is supported varies based on your version of ArcGIS Enterprise.

  • ArcGIS Enterprise 10.5.1 supports Workforce 17.0.1.
  • ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6 supports Workforce 18.0.1.
  • ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1 supports Workforce 18.0.2.
  • ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7 supports Workforce 19.0.1.
  • ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7.1 supports Workforce 19.0.2.

Web app

Using the web app, project owners configure Workforce projects and dispatchers create and assign work. For the best performance, use the latest version of one of the following browsers:

Desktop

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Safari

Tablets and phones

  • Chrome on Android 4.0 or later
  • Safari on iOS 6.0 or later

Download the setup

Download the Workforce setup to install it on your machine.

  1. Sign in to the My Esri site with your Esri account that is tied to your customer number.
  2. Click My Organizations and click Downloads.
    Note:

If you are a member of multiple organizations, ensure the name and customer number of the organization you want to work with display in the upper right corner. If they do not, click Organization List and choose a different organization before clicking Downloads.

All the products that are available to you (based on your customer number) display.

  3. Find the ArcGIS Enterprise product and version that you want to deploy Workforce to, and click View Downloads—for example, ArcGIS Enterprise (Windows) 10.5.1 or ArcGIS Enterprise (Linux) 10.5.1.
  4. Expand the Apps section.
  5. Click Download for the ArcGIS Workforce setup, and save it to your machine.

Install on Windows

Once you have met the requirements, complete the following steps to install Workforce on a Windows machine:

  1. Browse to the location of the downloaded installation file, extract the archive file, and double-click the setup.exe file.

The setup program detects the ArcGIS Enterprise components on your machine, verifying that you have Portal for ArcGIS. If it is not detected, the program closes.

  2. Follow the directions in the installation wizard. Read the license agreement and accept it, or close the installation wizard if you do not agree with the terms.

The default installation directory for the Workforce app is C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Portal\apps.

  3. Repeat the previous step, installing ArcGIS Workforce on all machines running the Portal for ArcGIS component.

For high-availability configurations of ArcGIS Enterprise, install ArcGIS Workforce on both the primary and secondary portal machines.

Install on Linux

Once you have met the requirements, complete the following steps to install Workforce on a Linux machine:

  1. Sign in to your machine as a user with administrative privileges.
  2. Browse to the location of the downloaded installation file and extract the archive file.
  3. Run the setup command.
  4. Repeat the steps, installing ArcGIS Workforce on all machines running the Portal for ArcGIS component.

For high-availability configurations of ArcGIS Enterprise, install ArcGIS Workforce on both the primary and secondary portal machines.

Use Workforce

When the setup completes, you are ready to use Workforce. Use a browser and type the URL to Workforce, for example, https://host.domain.com/webadaptor/apps/workforce (where host, domain, and webadaptor are replaced by the information about your portal). Click Resources in the app to access help.

Tip:

Resources opens help on the Esri website, which always reflects the latest version of Workforce. If you are using an earlier version of Workforce, you can use help installed on your portal that is specific to your version of Workforce. The help local to your portal can be accessed by adding /help at the end of the URL to Workforce, for example, https://host.domain.com/webadaptor/apps/workforce/help.

Help was not installed with Workforce 17.0.1. Download a .zip file of the 17.0.1 help, extract the files, and copy the help folder to the apps/workforce folder on your portal.

Tip:

If using ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6 or later, you may also want to add Workforce to the app launcher. The app launcher is a convenient window from which organization members can open the apps available to them, but Workforce is not included by default. To enable it, do the following:

  • Using ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6—Set the showWorkforce property in the portal's configuration file to true.
  • Using ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1 or later—Set the showInAppLauncher property in the portal's configuration file to include Workforce for ArcGIS.

See Set advanced portal options for details.

Upgrade

When a new version of ArcGIS Workforce is available, upgrade to it by uninstalling your existing version and installing the new version. Your projects aren't affected or modified by this process.

If you upgrade ArcGIS Enterprise, you might need to upgrade ArcGIS Workforce as well. Specific versions of ArcGIS Workforce are supported on specific versions of ArcGIS Enterprise. See Supported versions. If you're using an installation of ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6 or earlier on a Linux machine, your installation of Workforce is automatically removed when you upgrade ArcGIS Enterprise. If you installed ArcGIS Enterprise on Windows, or if you installed ArcGIS Enterprise 10.6.1 or later on a Linux machine, you need to remove Workforce before installing the new version of Workforce. After upgrading ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Workforce, you need to reindex your portal to see projects created before the upgrade.

Uninstall

If you no longer need to use ArcGIS Workforce, you can uninstall it from ArcGIS Enterprise.

  1. Open the Control Panel and click Programs and Features.
  2. In the Programs list, right-click ArcGIS Workforce and click Uninstall.
