When ArcGIS Workflow Manager Server is upgraded, you may need to upgrade your workflow items before they can be accessed by Workflow Manager users. If your workflow items were created earlier than Workflow Manager 11.0, you must upgrade your workflow items before they can be accessed by Workflow Manager users.
Starting at Workflow Manager 11.1, workflow items can be optionally upgraded before being accessed. This allows Workflow Manager administrators greater flexibility to schedule their workflow item upgrades at a time that doesn't affect their users' ability to complete work in the system. When workflow item upgrades are available, a notification appears in the Notification Center for the workflow item owner with sufficient privileges, informing them of the upgrade.
Note:
Any new features that require a workflow item to be upgraded will not be available until the upgrade has been completed.
