Settings are available in ArcGIS Web Editor in the Settings pane or as outlined below. The settings allow you to turn map tools, editing behaviors, shortcuts, and versioning on or off.
Click Settings
on the Contents (dark) toolbar to open the Settings pane.
Map tools
The Map tools section includes the following settings:
- Enable directional pad—When enabled, arrow buttons are available to pan the map.
- Enable map rotation using the directional pad—When enabled, a slider is available to rotate the map.
These tools can be used to navigate the map without leaving editing modes (either creating or editing features) and without using keyboard shortcuts.
Editing
The Editing section includes the following settings:
- Show the Attribute pane when creating features—When enabled, the Create features pane appears after the geometry for the feature is added. The Create features pane allows you to update the attributes for the feature at the time it is created. If this setting is turned off, the feature is created when the geometry is added, without providing the option to update the attributes. This option may be preferred in situations in which the fields have default values that do not need to be updated.
- Show delete features prompt—When enabled, a message appears when features are deleted. The message allows you to confirm the deletion or cancel it.
- Units—Change the units to US Standard or Metric.
Shortcuts
The Shortcuts section includes the Show shortcut keys on tooltips setting. When enabled, the shortcut for a tool appears in the tooltip for the corresponding button.
Versioning
The Versioning section includes the Show prompt when editing the default version setting. When enabled, a message appears when you attempt to edit the default version of a dataset, rather than a branch version. The message allows you to continue editing the default version or cancel.
Utility network
The Utility network section includes the Enable utility network highlighting setting. When enabled, this setting highlights features you can connect to while editing. For example, if you can connect anywhere on a line, the whole line is highlighted. The highlighted features will change according to the features that are on the map and which feature templates have been selected.
Classification schemas
Item classification helps organization members understand the extent of security and safeguarding an item warrants and can play a crucial role in protecting confidential and proprietary information. In Web Editor, the classification banner appears at the top and bottom of the page and displays the classification of the web map, not the services referenced in the web map.
As a member of the default administrator role or a custom role that includes the organization website privilege, you can assign your organization a classification schema that allows your members to classify items based on their level of sensitivity. Classification schemas are available on the Settings tab of your Organization page under Items. Assigning a classification schema to your organization requires a valid classification schema outlined in a .json file. You can create a classification schema or download a sample schema from the ArcGIS/Classification GitHub repository. Once you have a classification schema .json file, you can assign a classification schema through the portal website.
