What is ArcGIS Web AppBuilder?

Note:

ArcGIS Web AppBuilder in ArcGIS Online will be retired in the fourth quarter of 2025. Web AppBuilder leverages Esri's legacy ArcGIS API for Javascript (3.x), which will be retired in July 2024. As the underlying technology of Web AppBuilder retires, Web AppBuilder will also retire in ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, and the ArcGIS Developer subscription. Current users of Web AppBuilder should consider migrating their apps to ArcGIS Experience Builder. It is strongly recommended that users start new app projects in Experience Builder. For more information and for migration resources, see the Web AppBuilder roadmap for retirement.

ArcGIS Web AppBuilder is an intuitive what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) application that allows you to build web apps without writing a single line of code. It includes tools to configure fully featured HTML apps. As you add your map and tools, you can see them in the app and use them right away.

Key features

You can do the following with Web AppBuilder:

  • Create HTML and JavaScript apps that run on any device.
  • Build the apps you need using ready-to-use widgets.
  • Customize the look of your apps with configurable themes.
  • Host your apps online or run them on your own server.
  • Create custom app templates.

Web AppBuilder allows you to create 2D and 3D apps by accessing workflow tabs including Theme, Map or Scene, Widget, and Attribute.

You can also extend the framework to create custom widgets and themes by downloading the developer edition. Visit ArcGIS Developer for the download and to learn more.
