Modify missions

Project members can rename a mission, move a mission from one project to another, or copy a mission within a project.

Move or rename missions

Complete the following steps to move missions from one project to another project:

  1. From the Missions list, find the mission you want to move, click Options, and select Edit.
  2. In the Edit Mission menu, under Project, choose the project to move the mission to.

To rename a mission, change the mission name in the Edit Mission menu.

  3. Click Save.

Merge or copy missions

You can merge missions within a project. This is helpful for two reasons: enhancing the quality of processed outputs, and creating large-area datasets.

  • Enhancing quality—If merging two or more missions that have the same or similar aerial extent, the outputs will have greater quality because more photos were used to contribute to the processing job. This increases the photo coverage of features across the site, which can enhance the 2D and 3D quality, especially if combining missions of nadir and oblique capture angles. For best results, merge missions with the same or similar lighting conditions whenever possible to minimize color contrast on an orthomosaic. Ensure that proper overlap between images is maintained between the merged missions, horizontally and vertically. For example, if you are modeling a building and merging a nadir area survey over the building and perimeter scan around it, the highest perimeter scan images should be close in height to the images of the area survey.
  • Large-area datasets—Some sites are too large to capture with a single mission. Another common use for merged missions is to piece together several adjacent missions to cover the entire site. For larger datasets, reduce the processing quality setting to increase the chances of successful processing. This will also shorten the processing time.

Complete the following steps to merge missions:

  1. Click Merge Missions, and select the missions to merge.

The Merge Missions button shows the number of missions that you have selected for the merge. Parent missions will not be affected by the merge.

  2. Click Merge Missions again.
  3. Add a name for your new mission

It can be helpful to indicate details of the parent missions in the new mission name to provide added context to the new mission, such as the parent mission names or flight types.

  4. Click Merge.

After merging, you will be prompted to process the mission. You do not need to process the mission immediately. For example, you may want to configure a custom mission area before processing.

  5. If you want to process the mission immediately, choose the desired processing settings and click Process Mission to generate data products for the newly merged mission.

Using the same method as merging missions, you can copy a single mission. This is helpful if you want to explore different processing settings without overwriting the original data products. To copy a mission, follow the same steps as merge missions, and only select one mission as part of the merge.
