Standard users can perform the basic functions of this workflow; you do not need to sign in to an ArcGIS account.
When you add data to a map, the data appears as one or more layers. To work with the layers in a map, you can display the Layers list to access a variety of tools. You can hide the Layers list at any time when you want a full view of the map.

To display or hide the Layers list, complete the following steps:
- From the Map tools, click the Layers button
to display the list.The Layers list appears on the map.
- To hide the list, click the Layers button again.
