Once a district plan is created, you may want to reassign geographies to different districts. Change the active district and use the Selection tools to assign geographies to the desired district.
In a one-stage approach, you can assign geographies to districts based on selection, as described below.
For more information on district assignments see One Stage geography assignment and Two Stage geography assignment.
- Set the active district:
- On the Create ribbon, use the Active District drop-down menu to select the target district.
- Right-click the district that you want to make the active district and choose Make Current District.
- Click to select one of the Selection tools:
- Select a Geography allows you to select a geography by point selection.
- Select Geographies by Rectangle allows you to select geographies by rectangle selection.
- Select Geographies by Polygon allows you to select geographies by polygon selection.
- Select Geographies by Polyline allows you to select geographies by polyline selection, which selects all geographies that intersect the polyline.
- Digitize your selection on the map.
When drawing a polygon, each click of the mouse places a vertex on the map. Double-click to end the polygon.
The geographies that overlap the selection are assigned to the target district.
The District Window dialog box updates dynamically, based on the reassigned geographies.
Once you have made district assignments, you can lock districts to prevent further changes. Locking allows you to maintain the current assignment. When you lock a district, you cannot add or remove geography assignments. See Locking geographies to a district to learn more.
You can change the district symbology, which allows you to modify the colors for each district. See Changing district symbology for more information.
