Setting the geography selection level

The geography selection level defines the geography type used in selections, assignments, and locking.

If the selection level is set to Automatic, the selection changes with the map scale. For example, the district map may be zoomed in such that block groups are visible. At this extent, block groups are the selection level, and therefore, block groups are the geography that can be assigned to a district.

To enforce selection to a specific geography (for example, county, tract, block group, block, or VDT), choose the desired geography from the Selection Level drop-down menu.

Use the Display Level slider to change the minimum and maximum visibility scales for the different geography levels; see Modifying the geography display level for more information.

  1. Click the Create ribbon.
  2. Choose the desired selection level from the Selection Level drop-down menu.
