Work with transformation grids for 3D Tiles meshes

In some cases, third-party transformation grids are required to transform the input coordinate system to the 3D Tiles coordinate system. This may be necessary when using the following:

  • Vertical geoid-based coordinate systems
  • Certain horizontal coordinate systems

When 3D Tiles is chosen as the format for a mesh or DSM mesh, Reality Studio checks which transformation grids are required and a message appears when these grids are not available. A message also indicates which grid files are needed to perform the required transformation. These grid files are typically in TIF or GTX file format. If you have access to the required files, you can specify them and complete the generation of the 3D Tiles meshes.

Note:

Many transformation grids are available in PROJ-data.

Specify third-party transformation grids for 3D Tiles meshes

To specify third-party transformation grids for 3D Tiles mesh generation, complete the following steps:

  1. Copy the required grid files to a directory of your choice.

    Note:
Transformation grid files must retain their original names and should be stored directly in the respective folder (not a subfolder).

  2. Create an environment variable.
  3. Set the variable name to SR_PROJ_DATA and the variable value to the directory path where the grid files are located.

If Reality Studio was open before the environment variable was created, the application must be restarted and the project must be reopened.

  4. Open the project and run the reconstruction.

The reconstruction runs to completion and the 3D Tiles mesh is generated.
