A basemap provides a background, or visual context, for the data in a map. You can choose a basemap for a map. See Basemap layer and Layers to learn more about managing the layers in a map.
To choose a basemap, complete the following steps:
- From the map tools, click Basemap
.The Basemap gallery appears, showing thumbnails of available basemaps.
Note:
Four standard basemaps are available to guest users. If you are signed in to an ArcGIS account, the availability of organization basemaps is determined by your ArcGIS administrator.
- Click a basemap to select it.
The map automatically updates to the new basemap.
Considerations
Be aware of the following when working with basemaps:
- If you are signed in and the applied basemap is deleted from ArcGIS portal (ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise), a basemap blocking prompt appears to reset the basemap. The reset basemap defaults to your organization's basemap.
- If you are signed out and the applied basemap is deleted from ArcGIS portal (ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise), a basemap blocking prompt appears for you to sign in and reset the basemap. The reset basemap defaults to your organization's basemap.
- If you are signed out and the applied basemap is a custom tile layer basemap, a basemap blocking prompt appears for you to sign in and view the map.
- If you are signed in to your ArcGIS account, ArcGIS for Power BI uses the default basemap established by your ArcGIS administrator.
- If your organization's default basemap is a vector tile basemap and your browser does not support vector tile layers, the default basemap is replaced with a raster basemap.
- If the basemap's spatial reference is not
the same as the Power BI dataset's spatial reference, there will be an offset
issue.
Tip:
For accuracy, you need to get the basemap projection to match the reprojected data.
