Manage labels

You can view and manage labels from the Administration page.

View labels

You must be assigned the Administrator or Manager role to view labels. Complete the following steps to view labels:

  1. Access ArcGIS Monitor, if necessary.

    The Home page appears.

  2. Click Administration.

    The Administration page appears.

  3. Click Labels on the side of the page.

    The Labels page appears with a list of labels sorted alphabetically by label name.

  4. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.

Edit labels

You can edit a label's attributes, including its name, description, and background color. You must be assigned the Administrator or Manager role to edit labels. Complete the following steps to edit labels:

  1. Access Monitor, if necessary.

    The Home page appears.

  2. Click Administration.

    The Administration page appears.

  3. Click Labels on the side of the page.

    The Labels page appears with a list of labels sorted alphabetically by label name.

  4. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.
  5. Click More options More options in the row of the label that you want to edit and click Edit label.

    A dialog box appears with the label's properties.

  6. Update the label as necessary.
    Caution:

    When a label attribute is updated, collection expressions that reference that attribute must be updated to include the attribute's updated value. When a collection expression contains labels, it is recommended that you use the label's ID attribute in the expression; label IDs are not affected when other label attributes are changed.

  7. Click Save.

    The label is updated.

Batch edit label colors

Complete the following steps to change the color of multiple labels:

  1. Access Monitor, if necessary.

    The Home page appears.

  2. Click Administration.

    The Administration page appears.

  3. Click Labels on the side of the page.

    The Labels page appears with a list of labels sorted alphabetically by label name.

  4. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.
  5. Check the check box next to each label for which you want to change the color.
  6. Click Edit color.

    The Edit color dialog box appears.

  7. Assign a color to the labels using one of the following options:
    • Provide a HEX color code in the Color text box.
    • Click Pick a color Pick a color to open the color picker.
  8. Click Save.

    The color of the labels is updated.

Delete labels

You can delete labels that you no longer want to use. You must be assigned the Administrator or Manager role to delete labels. Complete the following steps to delete labels:

  1. Access Monitor, if necessary.

    The Home page appears.

  2. Click Administration.

    The Administration page appears.

  3. Click Labels on the side of the page.

    A list of labels appears sorted alphabetically by label name.

  4. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
    • Click Sort and change the sorting method.
    • Click Filter and create a query to filter the list.
    • Position the pointer at the edge of a column's header and drag the column's edge to resize it.
  5. Click More options More options in the row of the label that you want to delete and click Delete.

    A confirmation message appears.

    Caution:

    Deleting a label is permanent and can't be undone.

  6. Click Delete label to delete the label.

    The label is deleted and is removed from all components to which it was applied, and all collection expressions that contain the deleted label must be updated.
