Labels provide you with an additional level of annotation that can help you further organize your monitoring environment. They are color-coded and can be used for filtering and sorting lists of components or building collection expressions. Although labels may account for any arbitrary information, a labeling strategy derived from your organization's existing categorization can help to create meaningful groupings. For example, consider the following labelling methodologies:
- Environment—Production, Staging, Development
- Security posture—Public, Private
- Business owner—Public Safety, Education, Utilities
- Maintenance actions—Shutdown, Update, Patch
Labels are primarily managed from the Administration page. Labels can be applied when registering a component or applied directly from a component's Overview page.
