Collections are groups of components that you create to organize components into logical groups that serve as the foundation for analysis, metrics, service level agreement calculations, notifications, incidents, and feature services in ArcGIS Monitor. Collections are created using query expressions, which allows you to group components that share a common set of attributes, labels, or relationships with specific resources. Collections offer a flexible approach to component organization by continually evaluating collection expressions and dynamically updating the contents of the collections when changes occur in the monitored environment. For example, if a new Windows host component is added to your monitored environment and it meets a collection's expression criteria, it will automatically appear in the collection. While collection expressions can be used to produce a wide range of results, it is recommended that you implement collections that align with your organization’s management practices. For example, consider the following collection expression scenarios:
- Current status—Select components with a status of Critical or Warning.
- Architectural tier—Select components whose type is Host, Database, or Service.
- Environment—Select components with labels of Production, Staging, or Development.
- Maintenance activities—Select components with labels of Shutdown, Update, or Patch.
