Configure links

In this topic

In MicroStrategy Web, you can configure links to open related external reports or documents from a document or report. Links can be created on primary and secondary datasets added to a visualization.

With Esri Maps for MicroStrategy, document designers can configure a dynamic link from a map to an external report or document. For example, a document designer can create a document with a map showing customer revenue by region and add a link to a related report displaying employee profit by region.

One way to use links in MicroStrategy Web is to dynamically display a related report or document prompted by a common attribute that is in both the source report or document and the target report or document. This allows the designer to replicate customized drilling workflows. The steps for this scenario are described below.

Configuring links in a document in Design mode enables the Trigger interactions tool in Presentation mode. Configuring links in a report in Run mode enables the Trigger interactions tool in Run mode. Document analysts can use this tool to make selections on the map and dynamically display the target report or document with the data filtered according to the selections. See Trigger interactions for more information.

Note:
This functionality is only available in Design mode for documents and Run mode for reports.

  1. Open the document in Design mode or the report in Run mode.
  2. On the grid report that you configured as a layer in your map visualization, right-click the column for the attribute that you want to use for the link. This attribute must also exist in the target report or document. Click Edit Links.
  3. Click the New button and type the text you want to display as a description of the link. Be sure to use 50 characters or less for your link description.
  4. Click the Select Target button and browse to the prompted report or document you want to use as a link target. Click OK.
  5. Choose the attribute in the target report and choose Answer dynamically from the drop-down menu.
  6. Check the Open in new window check box if you want to open the target report or document in a new browser window or tab.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Repeat these steps for each of the layers on the map for which you want to configure links.
