Enable device settings for indoor positioning

Available with the ArcGIS Indoors Maps extension.

An indoor positioning system (IPS) is used to determine a location inside of buildings using infrastructure such as Bluebooth beacons that are present at and transmit signals from fixed locations.

ArcGIS Indoors Mobile supports Bluetooth-based IPS configured using ArcGIS IPS.

Enable device settings for Android

To enable indoor positioning on Android, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Enable the Location setting.

    For an optimal IPS experience, enable additional recommended settings on Android using the remaining steps.

  3. Go to Settings, tap Location > Location services, and enable Bluetooth scanning.
  4. Touch and hold the ArcGIS Indoors app icon, and tap App info.

    The App info window appears.

  5. Tap Permissions > Location, and configure the following settings:
    • Set the Location access setting to Allow only while using the app.
    • Enable the Use precise location setting.

Enable device settings for iOS

Indoors Mobile for iOS supports Bluetooth-based indoor positioning configured using ArcGIS IPS.

To enable indoor positioning on iOS, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security > Location Services, and enable the Location Services setting.

    For an optimal IPS experience, enable additional recommended settings on iOS using the remaining steps.

  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Tap Privacy & Security > Location Services, and enable the Precise Location setting.
  5. Configure location access settings for the Indoors Mobile app by doing the following:
    1. Go to Settings, and open the settings for the Indoors Mobile app.
    2. Set Allow Location Access to Always.
