Mosaic datasets are generally published as image services, making them accessible to web applications. In addition, server functions can be associated with each image service, enabling client applications to quickly redefine which functions to apply as the imagery is accessed. Unless disabled by the administrator, client applications can also define functions that are then processed by the server.

Optionally, a tile cache can also be created for an image service using ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro. The tile cache can also be generated from the mosaic dataset and served as part of a map service or through ArcGIS Online.
