Spatial Asset Management toolset is a versatile suite of tools designed for managing large, diverse collections of geospatial data, including rasters, lidar, and photographs. These datasets are commonly found across organizations such as state and local governments, utility providers, and infrastructure agencies.
Much of the managed imagery comprises orthomosaics and digital terrain models (DTMs), presented in various formats and coordinate projections. The lidar components typically consist of LAS files, while photo directories often include geotagged images with EXIF metadata for spatial referencing.
These assets are usually distributed across multiple storage environments including local hard drives, network-attached storage, and cloud platforms, which can make data access, organization, and visualization challenging. The Spatial Asset Management toolset helps overcome these issues by providing a unified framework for ingestion, metadata extraction, indexing, visualization, and simplified tools for making the data accessible using the core capabilities of ArcGIS such as mosaic datasets and tile cache.
The primary function of the Spatial Asset Management tools is to crawl the designated storage locations such as hard drives, network shares, and cloud platforms to build a Spatial Asset Management Catalog. This is defined using a Catalog Dataset with additional attributes. The Spatial Asset Management Catalog serves as a comprehensive index of datasets, capturing their extents and key attributes. You can also add more metadata fields.
A set of selection tools is available to symbolize and filter the datasets. A list of tools is also available to perform tasks on these selected datasets. These tasks include the following:
- Conversion to cloud-optimized formats
- Creation of mosaic datasets for seamless visualization
- Persistence in formats such as Cloud Raster Format (CRF) or tile caches
- STAC catalog generation that can be accessed directly in ArcGIS Pro or published to Geoportal Server
Note:
This beta release does not yet include all tools. Additional capabilities will be introduced in future updates to expand processing options.
Note:
Spatial Asset Management tools do not work with all forms of rasters. In many cases, and especially for more complex datasets, it is necessary to directly use the tools in ArcGIS Pro to create a mosaic dataset, create a LAS dataset, and work with oriented imagery layers.
The Spatial Asset Management toolset consists of an add-in and an associated set of geoprocessing tools. The add-in provides a set of Spatial Asset Management tools to the Imagery tab in ArcGIS Pro that calls the geoprocessing tools and provides visualization and query capabilities. The geoprocessing tools can be directly called to aid in automation.
