The QuickCapture widget integrates with ArcGIS QuickCapture and allows you to add a field data collection tool to an Experience Builder app. You can connect the widget to a QuickCapture project that you create in the QuickCapture designer.
QuickCapture is a field data collection tool designed for situations where you need to rapidly collect data, such as from a moving vehicle. It is appropriate for making incident report forms that are quick and easy to submit. QuickCapture uses a big-button interface where users choose from a series of large buttons that typically represent features such as trees, potholes, or power lines.
You can use the QuickCapture widget to capture location data, attributes, and photos. The widget adds captured data to a target feature layer.
Note:
The QuickCapture widget in Experience Builder does not support all features of ArcGIS QuickCapture. For more information about supported and planned features, see QuickCapture capability in ArcGIS.
Examples
Use this widget to support app design requirements such as the following:
- You want to provide users with a way to quickly and simply capture data.
- You want to deliver ArcGIS QuickCapture capabilities without requiring users to install an app.
- You want to share your existing QuickCapture projects with more users across your organization.
The following are industry-specific example uses for the QuickCapture widget:
- Local government—Officials can make an constituent services app for city residents to report non-emergency issues, like potholes, graffiti, and damaged road signs. Officials can use the app themselves to log incoming service requests.
- Utilities and infrastructure—Field crews can use mobile devices to record information during streetlight and powerline inspections. Office staff can use the same system to log phone reports of outages.
- Emergency response and public safety—Command staff can quickly mark new incidents, like fallen trees, on a map. Residents can report blocked roads, flooding, and shelter needs.
Usage notes
The QuickCapture widget requires connection to a Map widget. The Map widget must be connected to a web map that contains the same layers as the QuickCapture project you intend to use.
To use the QuickCapture widget, you must be connected to the internet.
When you include this widget in an app, different tools and options appear depending on the capture mode you configure in the widget settings:
- In Map sketch mode, you can capture records by clicking a button to select an observation type, then clicking the map to define the location.
- In Location sensor mode, you can click a button to capture a record at your current location.
- With both capture modes, captured records automatically appear in the target feature layers in the connected QuickCapture project
Tip:
For the best user experience, make your QuickCapture project button icons match the symbology in the target feature layer. You can edit project buttons with QuickCapture designer.
Settings
The QuickCapture widget includes the following settings:
- Select project—Open the Select project panel, where you can select a QuickCapture project. You can select a project that you own, a project shared with you, or a project shared publicly.
- Checked for updates—This timestamp indicates the last time the selected project was checked for updates.
- Select a Map widget—Select a Map widget. The widget automatically connects to the first Map widget on the current page. The selected Map widget must contain a web map or web scene with the same layers as the connected QuickCapture project.
- Capture mode—Choose a mode for defining the location of captured records.
- Map sketch—Users can click the map to define the location of the record. This mode is appropriate for capturing records from a desktop.
- Location sensor—The user's current location defines the location of the record. This mode is appropriate for capturing records from a mobile device.
