Image Collection Explorer widget

The Image Collection Explorer widget allows you to view all of the individual images in an image collection from a dynamic imagery layer. You can view image previews, footprints, and details; select images; and create new imagery layers from your selection.

You can use this widget and the Image Display Order widget together to create mosaics, which are combinations or merges of two or more images, from subsets of images that you choose. With the Image Collection Explorer widget, you can browse images in an imagery layer, create a new layer from a selection of images, and use that layer to generate mosaics with the Image Display Order widget.

Examples

Use this widget to support app design requirements such as the following:

  • You want to filter images in an image collection with spatial filters and attribute filters.
  • You want to create a new imagery layer with a subset of images from an original imagery layer and use the new layer as the input for other widgets.

Usage notes

This widget requires connection to a Map widget. The Map widget must contain a web map or web scene with at least one imagery layer.

Note:

The Image Collection Explorer widget only supports dynamic imagery layers with a mosaic dataset as the data source.

When you include this widget in an app, a panel provides users with the following interaction options:

  • Use the drop-down menu to select a supported imagery layer from the connected map or scene.
  • Filters—Open the Filters panel. There are three ways to filter images:
    • Area of interest—Filter images based on where they are located. You can choose to show only images that are within the current display extent of the Map widget, only images that are within the current display extent of the Map widget and are visible, or all images in the collection.
    • Attribute—Filter images based on an attribute. You can choose an attribute field from the drop-down menu and choose a value from the second drop-down menu. Only the images that have that value appear in the list.
    • Include overviews—Include overview images in filter results. Overview images are nonprimary lower resolution images that are usually created for viewing image collections at small scales.

Click Apply to apply the filters to the image list.

  • List settings—Open the List settings panel, where you can choose which display fields to include in the image list. You can also choose to display thumbnails for each image in the list. Click Done to apply the settings.
  • Sort by—Sort the image list based an attribute field. You can choose to sort in alphabetical or reverse-alphabetical order for string fields, and start with highest value or lowest value for number fields. Click Done to apply the sort.
Note:

The Filters, List settings, and Sort by options appear at run time if you turn them on in the widget settings.

The images from the imagery layer appear in a list. Each image in the list has the following interaction options:

  • View image details—Open the Image details panel. You can view a preview of the image and view any attributes and properties. Navigate between images with the Previous and Next buttons.
  • Zoom to image—Zoom to the image's location on the map.
  • Add image to map—Add the image to the connected web map or web scene. Clicking this button creates a new imagery layer.
  • Select—Add the image to the selection.
Note:

The View image details, Zoom to image, and Add image to map options appear at run time if you turn them on in the widget settings.

The image list includes two tabs: All and Selected. All of the images that meet the current filter criteria appear on the All tab. Any selected images appear on the Selected tab. From the All tab, you can select and deselect all images. Both tabs display a count of the number of images.

From both tabs, you can add your entire selection to the map as a new imagery layer and zoom to it. Click Add to map to create a new imagery layer from your current selection.
