After searching for imagery or video and connecting to the canvas, you can save your work to an Excalibur project. Click the Save button to save your progress on imagery or video you reviewed and analyzed. You must have the appropriate privileges to save. The Save button is visible in the toolbar header in the canvas view if you own the project or are a portal administrator.
Save a project
To save your work to a project, complete the following steps:
- Click Save on the canvas toolbar.
The Create an Excalibur Project dialog box appears.
- Provide information for the following parameters:
- Title (required)
Note:
This name should be unique. If the same name as an existing folder in your content is detected, a new folder is created in your portal with the same name and the word copy appended to it.
- Summary (optional)
- Tags (optional)
- Folder name (required)
- Project Instructions (required)
Tip:
You can emphasize your instructions by clicking Bold or Italic. You can also create a list by clicking Unordered list or Ordered list.
- Title (required)
- If you have records selected in the Image Metadata Table, choose to use the full layer to define the project analysis layer and not limit the layer to the selected records from the metadata table, or use the selected records in the metadata table to define the project analysis layer.
- Choose to share the project publicly, with your organization, or keep it private.
Optionally, you can also share the project with a portal group. The default is Owner.
- Click Create Project to create a project. Click Reset Form to clear all the fields you filled in. Optionally, close the dialog box to return to the canvas by clicking Cancel or the Close button in the form.
A loader appears and you are notified once the project is created successfully.
The title of the project also appears and reflects your changes, and a folder for the project is created in your portal. A web map is created with the Excalibur project and set as the project web map. This can be changed on the Web Map tab in Project Details. The web map is added to the folder created with the project in your portal.
- Continue working on the project and click Save to update your progress.
Note:
You must be the owner of the project to save and update your progress. If you are the owner of the project but do not own the web map being used in the project, you will not be able to save changes to the web map unless you have permissions to the project web map or if you create your own web map.
You can continue working with your project or make additional changes on the Project Details page.
Save markup to a project
You can save markup that you created as a feature collection that is stored with your Excalibur project. See Markup tools to learn how to use these tools. Once you finish marking up your imagery, click Save to update the project.
Project state
When a project is opened in the canvas view, the previous state it was saved in is reflected. This includes the following:
- Map extents and Image extents
- Focus images
- Image layer or Video layer
- Canvas state
- Selected images
Add an observation layer to an Excalibur project
You can add an existing observation layer to an Excalibur project to collect observations from your imagery or video, or you can create an observation layer to fit your project needs through the project details. To add an observation layer, see Choose an existing observation layer and Create an observation layer.
Add layers to an Excalibur project
You can add layers to your project for additional context using the Add Layer menu. Once these layers are added, they are added to the project web map and can be saved to the web map if you have the appropriate permissions. Any added feature layers are automatically added as observation layers in your project. If you do not have permissions to the project web map, you can create your own or save a copy of the current web map when clicking Save in the canvas.
