CGA

splitAndSetbackPerimeter operation

With the CityEngine 2022.1 release, we introduce the new splitAndSetbackPerimeter operation. Designed with your perimeter block development in mind, the operation splits the perimeter of a polygon into sections and applies individual setbacks to each of them. You can use this in urban development to create a set of building footprints for 3D modeling. Also, you can detach the CGA editor (as well as the Python editor) from the main window which is useful when working with two screens.

Streets

Street improvements

This release presents numerous bugfixes and improvements to the street editing tools. For a better drawing experience, you can snap to the extension and perpendicular directions of existing segments. The new Reverse Direction feature in the main menu, allows you to reverse the direction of a street. This is very useful when you are working with streets in which the left and right side have different lane configurations or sidewalk widths. Also, when drawing a new segment onto an existing segment, the ends are added as nodes to that existing segment. This can be helpful to better align streets to the terrain. The new Intersect Segments tool option in the street creation tools, allows you to add a node whenever segments cross each other, Finally, we fixed a bug in which adding a node to an existing street doesn't change the direction of one of the two resulting segments.

Inspector

Copy and paste street attributes and rules

We introduce a new feature that allows you to copy and paste the rule and object attributes, as well as the street and block parameters, from one shape to another. This feature has been requested from users for a long time. Now, you can efficiently apply finely-tuned attributes to other shapes. Also, several bugs were fixed for improved UX and performance.

Urban integration

Import as a new scene

The Navigator allows you to preview models, plans and projects, and the metadata before importing as a new scene into CityEngine. You can now save changes by scenario back to ArcGIS Urban. Also, It is possible to search for models by name in the Navigator. We improved the error messaging for when a user has insufficient permissions to save changes to ArcGIS Urban. Finally, the limit of displaying only fifty Urban Models in the Navigator was removed.

Get Map Data

8k vs 4k resolution

You can now download basemap and elevation data in 8k resolution to provide you more detailed and crisper terrain textures. Also, schematic basemaps are again selectable. Finally, we made the downloads faster and removed the error when selecting small extents.

Tutorials

New tutorials

The CityEngine tutorials are reorganized into new thematic categories: the Essentials and Classic Tutorial Series. The Essentials tutorials are presented in a storytelling format, while tutorials in the Classic Tutorial Series are structured in workflows and center around specific features of CityEngine.

New Essentials tutorials

  • Work with GIS Data – Learn about taking your own GIS data such as parcels in a geodatabase, cleaning up the data, and generating 3D city models for land use planning.
  • Rule-based modeling – Learn the essential concepts of CGA rules and how to author CGA rules to generate 3D buildings from footprints.

Refurbished Classic Tutorial Series

Added streamlined workflows and new images to the following tutorials:
