Introduction to Signal Management

Signal Management can be used to collect roadway signals, cabinets and poles, streamline inspection and maintenance activities, and understand asset conditions.

Signals are traffic control devices that direct roadway users. They are electronically operated assets that communicate rules, warnings, and guidance needed to navigate roads safely and efficiently. Properly maintained traffic signals reduce congestion, prevent collisions, and improve traffic flow.

Over time, traffic patterns change, and signals degrade with sunlight, weather, and environmental damage. Also, signals, cabinets, and poles placed too close to the roadway can become a hazard when struck by a vehicle. As a result, road maintenance organizations routinely inspect signals and retime or upgrade signals, cabinets, and poles when necessary. These routine inspection programs improve traffic flow, reduce risks, and identify safety issues before an incident occurs.

The Signal Management solution delivers a set of capabilities that help state and local governments collect roadway signals, cabinets and poles, conduct routine inspection and maintenance assignments, and understand asset conditions.
