Introduction to Backflow Inspections

Backflow Inspections can be used to streamline backflow prevention device inspections and understand backflow prevention device inspection status.

Consuming water contaminated by a backflow is a health risk. A backflow is when potable water in a distribution system is contaminated by a flow reversal. Backflows typically occur at cross connections, where potable water becomes non-potable due to mixture with bacteria, chemicals, or pollutants. Common cross connections points are at fire hydrants, sprinkler systems, irrigation systems, pools, and within the plumbing of commercial and industrial facilities. Many jurisdictions require the installation of backflow prevention devices at cross connections as well as routine inspection and testing to ensure proper function. Digitally recording backflow prevention devices inspections in the field and making data available across the organization means all staff have access to current information and can ensure backflow prevention devices are inspected at the appropriate time and any necessary repair or maintenance are carried out.

The Backflow Inspections solution delivers a set of capabilities that helps organizations requiring backflow inspections, such as water utilities and municipalities, to create an inventory of backflow prevention devices, conduct backflow inspections, and ensure the entire organization has access to inspection information.
