Introduction to Mosquito Surveillance

Mosquito Surveillance can be used to monitor mosquito populations and track the location of positive vector-borne disease test results.

Routine monitoring of larval and adult mosquito populations is critical to a successful mosquito control program. When data is tracked and compared over time, agencies can use this knowledge to predict recurring problem areas, times of year, and the potential for increased risk of vector-borne diseases. When vector-borne disease cases do arise, health and human services agencies must communicate information in a timely and effective manner with the public and mosquito control agencies. Mosquito control agencies can then use this information to plan adulticide spray operations that prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases. Mosquito Surveillance is typically implemented by public works, health and human services, and mosquito control agencies that want to use data to proactively plan spray areas and reduce the risk of vector-borne diseases.

The Mosquito Surveillance solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you record mosquito counts by species at surveillance sites; visualize trends over time; track where mosquitoes, chickens, birds, or humans have tested positive for vector-borne diseases; and share this information with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

Mosquito Surveillance requires the following:

  • ArcGIS Online

Information products

Mosquito Surveillance includes the following information products:

ItemDescriptionMinimum user type

Mosquito Health Concerns

An ArcGIS Instant Apps Sidebar app used by mosquito control and public health staff to track locations where mosquitoes, chickens, birds, or humans have tested positive for a vector-borne disease

Contributor

Mosquito Health Concerns Summary

An ArcGIS Dashboards app used by mosquito control and public health staff to communicate positive vector-borne disease test results to the general public

Not required

Mosquito Population Surveillance

An ArcGIS Instant Apps Reporter used by biologists and field inspectors to record mosquito counts by species at surveillance sites

Contributor

Mosquito Population Surveillance Charts

An ArcGIS Dashboards app used by mosquito control agencies to visualize population changes over time through informative charts

Viewer (required for internal stakeholders)

When you deploy this solution in your ArcGIS organization, you also get a solution item that organizes the key information products and summarizes all the ArcGIS items (applications, forms, projects, maps, feature layers, feature layer views, and so on) included with the solution. The solution item also illustrates any dependencies items have on each other.
