Lead Service Line Inventory can be used to develop a lead service line inventory and monitor the replacement of service lines required to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule Improvements.
In this topic, you'll learn how to configure the Lead Service Line Inventory solution to meet specific needs of your organization.
Tip:
As you configure the solution, record the configurations or alterations you make with each version in a change log. This information will be valuable if you upgrade to a new version and need to evaluate the effort required.Load Data
In some cases, you may need to load existing data into the solution before sharing the maps or applications. Review the maps or applications provided with the solution and determine what, if any, source data you want to load.
Note:
For ServiceLine layers with attachments and the Service Line Self-Assessment feature service, use the Data Loading toolset.
Use the Data Loading toolset
The Data Loading toolset contains tools to streamline data loading from a source schema to a target schema. The tools help reduce the time and complexity of migrating to a new data schema.
To use ArcGIS Pro to load data in to the solution, complete the steps below:
- Open ArcGIS Pro.
- Click Tools in the Geoprocessing group on the Analysis tab of the ribbon.
- Expand the Data Management Tools then expand the Data Loading toolset.
- Review the Data Loading toolset documentation to understand how to load data into the Service Line and Service Line Self-Assessment layers.
Provision users
Included with Lead Service Line Inventory are four groups designed to help managers organize their members based on their privileges and their work.
To add members to the groups, complete the following steps:
- Verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and that you have privileges to manage member groups.
- Click Groups at the top of the site.
- Browse to a group and click it to open the group page.
- On the Settings tab, edit and update the properties of the group, including access, sharing properties, and group ownership.
- On the Overview tab, click Invite members.
- Check the check box next to the members that you want to add and click Add members to group.
- Repeat these steps for each group that you need to add members to.
The provided groups are intended to be utilized by members with a minimum of the following user types in order to fully use the provided maps and apps:

Create the Lead Service Line Inventory ArcGIS Pro project (optional)
First, you will create a map project in ArcGIS Pro that can be used for adding and editing service line and related information.
- Start ArcGIS Pro; if you are already in a project, click the Project tab and click New.
Note:
Ensure that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization. - Under New Project, click Map.
- In the New Project dialog box, for Name, type Lead Service Line Inventory. Specify a location and click OK
- In the Catalog pane, click the Portal tab, browse to the Lead Service Line Inventory folder, and double-click to open it.
- Right-click the ServiceLine_editing feature service and click Add To Current Map.
- Save the project.
Configure Lead Service Line Inventory site
The Lead Service Line Inventory solution includes the Lead-Safe Community ArcGIS Hub site that your organization can configure with your branding and can use to share information about lead service information with the public.
Update with organizational information
After deploying the Lead Service Line Inventory solution, the Lead-Safe Community site layout only requires a few updates to fit your local context. Consider what information you already have and what you can most easily find. Update the information by completing the following steps:
- Verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Lead-Safe Community site.
- Open the item page and click Configure App.
- On the left, click the edit button
to open the site editor.
- Scroll to the Statistics section under the title of the website.
- Update each card by hovering over the card and clicking the edit button
. A pane appears where you can make changes to the colors, images, text. and more.
- Click Layout to add additional cards to the site and select from the list of options.
- Click Customize to access Settings, Theme, Header, Layout, and Footer options.
- Make the necessary changes and click Apply.
- Click Save.

Enable verification labels
The Lead Service Line Inventory solution includes a label to show whether or not the utility side or customer side of the service line has been verified. The label appears as a dot on either the utility side or customer side of the symbol. If the specific side of the service line has not been verified, the dot will appear. Once it has been updated to verified, the dot will disappear. By default, the label is turned off. Follow the steps below to enable the label.
- Verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Lead Service Line Viewer map.
- Click Open in Map Viewer to open the map.
- Ensure the Service Line layer is active in the Layers pane. On the toolbar, click Labels.
- Toggle on Enable labels
- Click Save.
- Repeat steps 1-5 for the Lead Service Line Editor and Lead Service Line Field Editor maps.
Enable symbol styles
The Lead Service Line Inventory solution includes two styles containing the symbols for the Service Line layer: Lead Service Line Inventory Desktop Symbols and Lead Service Line Inventory Web Symbols. The Lead Service Line Inventory Desktop Symbols style is used in ArcGIS Pro to modify the existing symbols or add new symbols to the style to be published back for use in ArcGIS Enterprise. The Lead Service Line Inventory Web Symbols style is made available in ArcGIS Enterprise to add or update symbols in your maps, especially if you modified or removed a symbol and need to recover the original.
Add Lead Service Line Inventory Web Symbols to a map
Follow the steps below to add the Lead Service Line Inventory Web Symbols to a map:
- Verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Lead Service Line Viewer map.
- Click Open in Map Viewer to open the map.
- Ensure the Service Line layer is active in the Layers pane. On the toolbar, click Styles.
- Under Pick a style click Style options.
- Click one of the symbols and in the Symbol style pane click the Current symbol.
- Click Add styles
, select the Lead Service Line Inventory Web Symbols and click Add. The style is now available to update symbols throughout your organization.
Add Lead Service Line Inventory Desktop Symbols to ArcGIS Pro
Follow the steps below to add the Lead Service Line Inventory Desktop Symbols to ArcGIS Pro:
- In ArcGIS Pro, sign in to your ArcGIS organization containing the Lead Service Line Inventory Desktop Symbols.
- In the Catalog pane, right-click Styles and click Add Style.
- Under Portal, expand My Content and navigate to the folder containing the Lead Service Line Inventory Desktop Symbols.
- Select Lead Service Line Inventory Desktop Symbols and click OK. The style has now been added to ArcGIS Pro and is ready for symbols to be added or modified.
- After adding or modifying symbols, the style can be shared as a web style back to ArcGIS Enterprise. Review the Share a web style documentation to understand how to share the web style.
Share items with public
Several layer views, maps and apps included in the Lead Service Line Inventory solution must be shared with everyone so they can be accessed by the public on the Lead-Safe Community site. To share your lead service line items with everyone, use the guide below and complete the following steps:
- Verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Lead Service Line Inventory folder.
- Check the check box next to each of the items below:
