Introduction to Opioid Epidemic Outreach

Opioid Epidemic Outreach can be used to inventory prevention and treatment resources, communicate the severity of the epidemic, and promote resources available to those in need.

In the late 1990’s, pharmaceutical companies convinced the medical community that patients would not become addicted to opioid pain killers. As a result, prescriptions increased, and widespread misuse of opioids began. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledged that opioid misuse reached epidemic levels in 2011 and is supporting state and local governments as they identify outbreaks, respond to overdoses, and provide care to those in need. Opioid Epidemic Outreach is typically implemented by health and human services agencies that want to understand where the epidemic is impacting the community, optimize resource allocation, make smart prevention and treatment investments, and help those suffering from the epidemic find the help they need.

The Opioid Epidemic Outreach solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you inventory prevention and treatment resources, communicate the severity of the epidemic, and promote resources available to those in need.
