Introduction to Communications Utility Network Foundation

Communications Utility Network Foundation can be used to accelerate coax, copper, fiber, and wireless communication utility network implementations.

It includes a data model that configures ArcGIS Enterprise and the ArcGIS Utility Network to represent communication networks. It deploys foundational services, simplifying the creation of additional web and mobile apps and provides a desktop data editing environment.

Starting with Communications Utility Network Foundation means organizations don't have to spend their time and implementation budget on building custom data models and information products.

Deploy the solution

This ArcGIS solution can be deployed in your ArcGIS organization.

See Deploying a solution for more information.

Requirements

Communications Utility Network Foundation requires the following:

  • ArcGIS Enterprise
  • ArcGIS Pro 3.3
  • ArcGIS Utility Network extension

Note:
To deploy this solution, you must have an ArcGIS organizational account. After deploying the solution, you can download it from your organization and begin using it in ArcGIS Pro.

Information products

Communications Utility Network Foundation includes the following:

ItemDescriptionMinimum user type

Communications Utility Network Foundation

A zipped file with an ArcGIS Pro project package with tasks, a configured utility network in a file geodatabase, editor and auditor maps, and an asset package geodatabase

Creator

  • ArcGIS Advanced Editing extension add-on

When you deploy this solution in your ArcGIS organization, you also get an ArcGIS solution item that organizes the key information products and summarizes all the ArcGIS items (applications, forms, projects, maps, feature layers, feature layer views, and so on) included with the solution. The ArcGIS solution item also illustrates any dependencies items have on each other.

Release notes

The following are the release notes:

VersionDescription
1.5
  • The field availablecapacity has been removed from StructureEdgeObject because it is no longer used.
  • The field maximumcapacity has been removed from StructureEdgeObject because it is no longer used.
  • The domain Wire_Duct_Diameter has been assigned to the diameter field for the subtype Wire Conduit Fitting on StructureJunctionObject so that conduits have a valid list of diameter values.
  • The domain Wire_Duct_Diameter_mm has been assigned to the diameter_metric field for the subtype Wire Conduit Fitting on StructureJunctionObject so that conduits have a valid list of diameter values.
  • The Asset Group Building Riser has been copied from Electric Utility Network Foundation and added to the StructureJunctionObject class so that building risers can be modeled in this solution.
  • The domain of Structure_Wall_Position has been assigned to the Wall ID field on StructureJunctionObject so the wall ID can be selected from a drop-down list.
  • The Structure Lines' Wire Duct Bank/Duct Bank Asset Group/Type Edge Connectivity has been set to Any Vertex to allow for midspan connections.
  • The Communications_Tower_Height attribute domain has been added to the geodatabase to support Tower Height values.
  • The Communications_Tower_Height_Metric attribute domain has been added to the geodatabase to support Tower Metric Height values.
  • The Communications_Tower_Height domain has been assigned to the Height field on StructureJunction so the height of towers can be selected from a drop-down list.
  • The Communications_Tower_Height_Metric domain has been assigned to the Height field on StructureJunction so the height_metric of towers can be selected from a drop-down list.
  • The Structure_Wall_Position domain has been assigned to the Wall ID field on StructureJunction so the wall ID can be selected from a drop-down list.
  • The field ribbongroupid has been added to CommuncationEdgeObject to support a ribbon cable ID.
  • The D_Configurations and D_Rename tables have been moved to a seperate geodatabase to simplify the application of the entire communications model.
  • The prefix of STR: has been added to all Structure Network Categories to simplify the identification of structure categories.
  • The Data Dictionary has been replaced with reports generated from the Generate Schema Report geoprocessing tool.
