Use Land Use Outreach

The Land Use Outreach solution delivers a set of capabilities that help you share land use, zoning and other (for example, floodplain) regulations, generate awareness about permitted construction activity, and engage the public when new developments are proposed.

In this topic, you’ll learn how to use the solution by assuming the role of a user and performing the workflows below.

Locate a parcel impacted by a floodplain

As the general public and real estate professionals search for properties, floodplain boundaries come into consideration so that informed decisions can be made during the land development and home buying processes.

In this workflow, you will learn how to locate and view authoritative floodplain boundary information (DFIRM panels) provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) using Floodplain Inquiry. You will assume the role of a resident in a local community. You want to see if a property you are interested in purchasing sits in a floodplain boundary.

1. In a browser, sign in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Floodplain Inquiry app.
2. From the item page, click View.
3. Type a parcel number or address into the search text box and press Enter.

   A pop-up appears that states whether the parcel is within a flood zone along with the properties details.

4. Click Legend to review the flood zone symbols.

Identify land use impact

As development occurs in a community, the general public, developers, and real estate professionals must identify land use and zoning designations that affect land use.

In this workflow, you will learn how to locate and view current land use, future land use, and zoning designations using Land Use Inquiry. You will assume the role of a resident in a local community. You want to see what the current and proposed land use is for a particular property.

1. In a browser, verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Land Use Inquiry app.
2. From the item page, click View.
3. Type a parcel number or address in the search text box and press Enter; alternatively, click a location on the map.

   In the panel, the search results displays the current land use, future land use, and current zoning designations.

4. Click a search result.
5. Click Zoom to results on map to zoom in to the result on the map.
6. Click Clear search location to clear the search results.

Review construction activity

As development occurs in a community, the general public, developers, and real estate professionals must locate open, under review, approved, and closed building permits.

In this workflow, you will learn how to track individual building permits and general construction activity. You will assume the role of a resident in a local community. You want to check the status of a recently submitted constriction permit.

Note:

This app is configured to use the ArcGIS World Geocoding Service to find addresses. This capability consumes credits.

1. In a browser, verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Construction Activity Tracker app.
2. From the item page, click View.
3. Type an address, applicant name, or permit number and press Enter; alternatively, click Search this area.

   In the panel, the search results will display the details and current status of construction permits.

4. Click a search result.
5. Click Zoom to results on map to zoom in to the result on the map.

Submit feedback in the Public Comment app

As land use cases and capital projects are reviewed in a community, the general public and other interested parties can submit feedback on a given case or project.

In this workflow, you will learn how to submit feedback and help make better development decisions in the community. You will assume the role of a resident in a local community. You want to submit feedback on a current land use case.

This app is configured to use the ArcGIS World Geocoding Service to find addresses. This capability consumes credits.

1. In a browser, verify that you are signed in to your ArcGIS organization and browse to the Public Comment app.
2. From the item page, click View.
3. Type a address or place and press Enter.
4. In the pane, click a case up for public comment; alternatively, click a case directly on the map.

   Review the details and current status of the case.

5. Click the Add a comment button, complete the comment form, and click Submit.
6. Click Vote for this item.
