Documentation assistant (beta)

The documentation assistant (beta) uses artificial intelligence (AI) to provide responses to questions related to ArcGIS. You can ask it about workflows, best practices, what’s new, products, and capabilities. It is trained exclusively on Esri documentation such as help topics, blog articles, tutorials, and knowledge base articles.

The documentation assistant (beta) maintains context about your current conversation as you use it, retaining your last four messages as well as the current prompt. All stored information is anonymized and is not linked to a specific user. Providing personal information will not improve the accuracy of the responses you receive from the documentation assistant (beta). Each response includes sources for further reading in a drop-down menu.

Get started

To get started with the documentation assistant (beta), do the following:

The documentation assistant (beta) will not recall previous conversations, but it will maintain context until you reset the current conversation.

Security and privacy

The documentation assistant (beta) aligns with the following principles:

  • Prompts are not used to train Esri or third-party AI models
  • Prompts are not used to improve any Esri or third-party product or service
  • Prompts are not stored or shared
  • Prompts are not used to improve the assistant for your own use

AI transparency cards are available with more security and privacy details.

Limitations and bias

Responses generated by AI can be misleading or inaccurate. To avoid potentially reinforcing any unintentional biases in the AI models use by the documentation assistant (beta), human judgement should be applied when interpreting and acting upon the assistant's outputs.

An ArcGIS Online organizational account is required to access the documentation assistant (beta). The documentation assistant (beta) will be available through ArcGIS Enterprise organizational accounts at a future release.
