Modify a mesh in a scene

You can modify integrated mesh scene layers in Layer properties Settings. Cut holes, mask, or adjust the height of the integrated mesh to combine it with other layers. For example, if you have an integrated mesh of a city area, you can cut a hole in the mesh to remove an existing building and replace it with a 3D model of the proposed building.

Under Mesh modifications, click Configure modifications to modify the integrated mesh scene layer.

Draw a mesh modification

You can draw multiple polygons to create mesh modifications.

To draw a mesh modification polygon, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Draw modification Draw polygons.
  2. Click a location in the scene to start drawing a polygon and click to add points.
  3. To finish the polygon, click the first vertex, double-click, or press Enter.

You can draw more mesh polygons.

Edit a mesh modification

You can modify the shape of the mesh modification polygons.

To edit a mesh modification polygon, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Edit modification Edit polygon to edit the polygon.
  2. Use the interactive handles to resize, rotate, or move the feature horizontally and vertically.
  3. Click the polygon again to move individual vertices to reshape the polygon.
    1. Drag vertices in the middle of a segment to add vertices. This allows you to further reshape the polygon by dragging vertices.
    2. To delete a vertex, select it and press Del.
    3. To delete a polygon, select it and press Del.
  4. Click again to use the interactive handles.

Note:
Scene Viewer supports scenes with intersecting or multipart mesh modification polygons created in another app such as ArcGIS Pro 3.2 or later. However, you cannot edit these polygons.

Set the modification type

Under Modification type, you can use the created polygon to clip, mask, or adjust the mesh height.

To set the modification type, complete the following steps:

  1. Select a mesh polygon.
  2. Under Modification type, do one of the following:
    • Click Clip to hide part of the mesh inside the polygon.
    • Click Mask to hide part of the mesh outside the polygon
    • Click Replace to adjust the height of the mesh inside the polygon.

You can create mesh polygons that are set to the Clip or Replace modification type inside another polygon that is set to the Mask type.

  3. Optionally, select other mesh polygons and set the modification type.

You can set unique modification types for each mesh polygon.

  4. Optionally, click Clear modificatons to remove all mesh polygons.
  5. Click Done when you're finished to apply the mesh modifications and return to the layer properties pane.
