Data Appliance 6.3 for ArcGIS has the following improvements and enhancements:

Highlights

Data Appliance 6.3 for ArcGIS is delivered on 6-terabyte drives.

The Elevation and Geoprocessing services are now on a separate World Elevation collection included with all product options.

World Hillshade is a new service for use in place of World Shaded Relief.

For Standard and Advanced product options, World Imagery is now on a separate collection providing room for additional levels of detail.

For Standard and Advanced product options, World Street Map, World Topographic Map, World Transportation, and World Boundaries and Places now include additional levels of detail.

Global small scales (~1:591M to ~1:577k) were updated for nine maps: World Topographic Map, World Street Map, World Boundaries and Places, World Boundaries and Places Alternate, World Transportation, World Dark Gray Base and Reference, and World Light Gray Base and Reference.

North America large scale (~1:288k to ~1:1k) was updated for five maps, including more than 230 communities in addition to the large scale update: World Topographic Map, World Street Map, World Boundaries and Places, World Boundaries and Places Alternate, and World Transportation. World Dark Gray Base and Reference, and World Light Gray Base and Reference were updated from (~1:288k to ~1:9k)

Europe large scale (~1:288k to ~1:1k) was updated for World Topographic Map (other services included the Europe update in Data Appliance 6.2 for ArcGIS).

The World Shaded Relief service is in mature support and will be retired in the next release of Data Appliance for ArcGIS.

The following services are no longer available on Data Appliance 6.3 for ArcGIS. They were in mature support in the previous Data Appliance 6.2 for ArcGIS release:

  • Esri_Elevation World
  • USGS_Elevation_US

World Hillshade

Data Appliance 6.3 for ArcGIS includes a new World Hillshade basemap designed for use as a backdrop for topographical, soil, hydrological, landcover, or other outdoor recreational maps.

World Imagery

The World Imagery basemap was updated with more recent and more detailed imagery at large scales (~1:36k to ~1:1k). In select areas, imagery is provided down to Level 21 (~1:282). Global small scales (~1:591M to ~1:72k) were updated with TerraColor imagery. In the United States, NAIP 2015 imagery was added for 23 states (~1:36k to ~1:4k). All the updated imagery at these larger scales provide significant improvements with image quality (for example, less cloud cover and more color) and currency in many areas around the world.

World Street Map

The World Street Map was updated globally from ~1:591M to ~1:577k. North America map updates from ~1:288k to ~1:1k include updated content from HERE and updated community contributions primarily at large scales from ~1:9k to ~1:1k. World Topographic Map

The World Topographic Map was updated globally from ~1:591M to ~1:577k. Canada was updated from ~1:577k to ~1:1k. Europe and North America updates from ~1:288k to ~1:1k include updates from HERE and new and updated community contributions primarily at large scales from ~1:9k to ~1:1k. Data for Israel is available from ~1:288k to ~1:1k. Other areas updated include Caracas, Venezuela; Manila, Philippines; and the State of Victoria, Launceston & Moreton Bay Regional Council, Australia. Updates for the United States include community contributions from ~230 cities, counties, and states. For a complete list of all contributors, see World Topographic Map Contributors (PDF).

USA Topographic Maps

The USA Topographic Maps basemap was updated with new content over Puerto Rico from ~1:1M to ~1:18k.

World Dark Gray Base and Reference and World Light Gray Base and Reference

The World Dark Gray Base, World Dark Gray Reference, World Light Gray Base, and World Light Gray Reference maps were updated globally from ~1:591M to ~1:577k. North America map updates from ~1:288k to ~1:9k include updated content from HERE and updated community contributions. World Boundaries and Places and World Transportation

World Boundaries and Places Alternate

The World Boundaries and Places Alternate reference layer includes updated global coverage from ~1:591M to ~1:577k and updated coverage for North America from ~1:288k down to ~1:144k.

World Elevation

Elevation layers and geoprocessing services are now offered on a separate collection: Terrain, Terrain3D, Elevation, and ElevationSync (Profile) are included on Collection B.

Updates to the Terrain and Terrain3D services include the following:

  • New Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) 30m data for the Middle East.
  • An extensive collection of lidar data of England and Wales from the Environment Agency of England and Natural Resources Wales, respectively. At 2 meters resolution (cell size), the lidar derived DTM (bare earth) covers nearly three quarters (~70%) of England and Wales. The data mainly covers flood plains, coastal zones, and urban areas and will aid in improving the quality of flood risk modeling. With this update, there is now 25 times more detail in these countries.

World Places Locator

The World Places Locator is included on Collection B to accommodate suggestions functionality that is available when using ArcGIS for Server 10.3.1 or later with the appropriate Geocoding Patch. You can view World Places Locator Help (PDF) online.

World Shaded Relief

The World Shaded Relief basemap is in mature support. This is the last release this service will be included on Data Appliance.
