Envelopes display the maximum extent of potential buildings. This is constrained by height, setback, and skyplane restrictions on each parcel. Typically, other controls such as parcel coverage and floor area ratio mean that a building cannot fill this entire volume, but a building can fit somewhere in the envelope. Envelopes are only available in zoning plans.
Show envelopes
To show the envelopes in your zoning plan, complete the following steps:
- Open the zoning plan.
- Click the menu button in the upper left corner of the header to expand the layer list.
- Click the expand button next to Envelopes to show additional layer options.
- Chose from the following envelope layer options:
- All—Show envelopes on all parcels.
- Planned developments—Show envelopes on parcels with planned developments. An envelope is shown, if the parcel contains a planned building or planned surface or is fully demolished.
In the layer list, next to Envelopes, a spinner icon is shown while envelopes are being generated. You can continue to edit your plan during the generation. Envelopes show up automatically in the map after the process is finished.
Tip:
- No envelope is shown, if the maximum allowed height on a parcel is 0. See the Zoning regulation management topic to learn more how to configure zoning regulations.
- Envelopes might hide warning labels. Consider hiding envelopes when working with warning labels. See Validate buildings against zoning regulations to learn more about warning labels.
