Share content

To quickly find and share ArcGIS content in a chat or channel, use @mentions or the ArcGIS for Teams messaging extension. When you @mention ArcGIS Maps in a chat message field or the Microsoft Teams search box, these fields become a search tool to help you access ArcGIS content.

Sharing ArcGIS content with an @mention works best when you know what content you want to share. To explore and discover ArcGIS content before you share it in a chat, meeting, or team channel, use the search function.

Share ArcGIS content directly

To share an ArcGIS item directly in a chat, meeting, or team channel, complete the following steps:

  1. Type @ArcGIS Maps <keyword or phrase> in the chat message field to @mention ArcGIS for Teams.

    Tip:
Accept the prompt from Microsoft Teams to choose ArcGIS Maps as the message recipient.

A chat message appears, asking if you want to search for these keywords.

  2. Follow the steps in Search for ArcGIS content from a chat, meeting, or team to refine the search results.
  3. Select the item that you want to share from the search results.

The item's information card is shared to the ArcGIS for Teams Chat tab for the chat, meeting, or team channel.

Recipients of the information card can click Open to view the item.

Items open in ArcGIS for Teams based on the item's privacy settings and whether the recipient is signed in to an ArcGIS account.

  • If users are not signed in to an ArcGIS account, most public content opens in a browser, in the software native to the file type (such as .CSV), or on the ArcGIS Maps Viewer tab. For example, a story that is shared with everyone typically opens on the ArcGIS Maps Viewer tab.
  • If users are signed in to an ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise account, content typically opens on the ArcGIS Maps Viewer tab—provided that the item's privacy settings allow viewing and sharing.
    Tip:

Use the Filter button Filter search options to help find shareable content.

  • Information cards can be copied and pasted to share in other chats. Click the Card options button More added apps and click Copy Copy.

To copy an ArcGIS item into a chat, meeting, or team channel from the Microsoft Teams search box, complete the following steps:

A list of results appears below the search box.

  2. Click @ArcGIS Maps.

The ArcGIS Maps search window appears.

  3. Follow the steps in Search for ArcGIS content from a chat, meeting, or team to perform and refine a search.
  4. Select an item to share from the search results.
  5. Click Post.

    The item's information card appears.

  6. Click the Copy Copy button on the card.

The information card is copied to your clipboard.

  7. Paste the information card into a chat message or channel and click Send Send.

Recipients of the information card can click Open to view the item in their browser window. Information cards can be copied and pasted to share in other chats. Click the Card options Card options button and click Copy Copy.
